Fort Ord pulled nine lengths clear of the third when chasing home Jug Of Punch at Hereford latest but, while he is likely to be capable of better still, a 5lb rise may prevent him from going one better. Mid Sussex Spirit posted an improved effort to finish second at Fontwell latest and couldn't be dismissed, but preference is for the relatively unexposed FORDINGBRIDGE. Philip Hobbs' six-year-old looked capable of finding further improvement when scoring at Taunton latest and, with his ability to go well fresh proven, a 576 day absence should not hinder his chances.
NIPPY DES MOTTES looked to be feeling the effects of a long season when failing to show his usual sparkle at Aintree in April. However, his rating over timber was far superior to anything achieved by today's rivals and Paul Nicholls' gelding can make a successful start over fences. Water Taxi was far from disgraced when chasing home the promising Ungaro at Kelso latest and his experience over the larger obstacles may prove crucial in the closing stages. Jack The Giant and Vaughan, both promising sorts over hurdles, look interesting recruits to the chasing game and any market confidence would be interesting.
KATIES TUITOR sauntered clear to win as comfortably as the 20-length winning margin would suggest at Kempton latest. He won with stacks in hand that day and is impossible to oppose under a penalty. Irish Whispers looked far from fluent at the obstacles despite beating subsequent winner Chess Board at Fontwell in September. Lord Adonis defied his 100-1 starting price to finish second behind Freeze The Flame at Cheltenham latest, while the market will prove the best guide to what's expected of decent Flat performer Mull Of Dubai on his first start over timber.
An open-looking if slightly disappointing three-runner affair which could go to any of the evenly matched trio. UNDERWRITER has always been highly regarded and, after winning a novice event a year ago, rounded off his season with a creditable effort in a Grade A Novices' Handicap at Punchestown in April. Although lightly raced in recent seasons, Latimer's Place has the experience to enable him to put up a good show this afternoon. Bubble Boy has won twice over fences and a repeat of his best efforts would put him firmly in the picture this time.
With two wins last term, TROMPETTE rounded off her season with a creditable effort behind Brogella in a Grade 3 event at Punchestown in April. With the stable in good order already, it would be no surprise to see the Bahri filly make a winning return to action this afternoon. Slew Charm beat the useful Bureaucrat at Market Rasen in February and chased home another highly thought of individual, Opera De Coeur, at Warwick on his final start of the campaign. Dusky Lord was a little disappointing on his reappearance three weeks ago, but a better effort can be expected this time with that run under his belt.
Only four runners for this decent prize, but they look evenly matched and none can be discounted. Stance and Croix De Guerre both finished behind the in-form Crossbow Creek on their most recent starts and it is difficult to split them. Nayodabayo has done nothing but improve for Evan Williams and was only run out of it close home by Briery Fox last time. That leaves TANIKOS who, despite being pulled up behind Crossbow Creek at Kempton latest, has returned to a decent mark and should leave that effort behind him this afternoon.
White Gate made a big impression when winning a point at Maralin in March and comes over here with quite a reputation. Supreme Royal is a full brother to useful Karratha and Limerick Leader, so can be expected to go well on his racecourse debut. Nigel Twiston-Davies has been cleaning up in this type of event this season, so his Carlitos commands plenty of respect. Of the Nicky Henderson representatives, Shouldhavehadthat can put his experience to good use, but the only previous scorer in this grade, SOUND ACCORD, gets the vote. A half-brother to the useful River City, he can hopefully shrug off his penalty on the way to better things.
