Ripon can be a daunting track for newcomers with its sharp turns and undulations. Experience counted for WHO TOLD JO JO last time and could do so once more after his impressive victory here last month. He has to give weight away, but that may not prove to be an issue against a field that appears to lack a star contender on paper. The obvious candidate would be Katrine for Mark Johnston, but the Middleham runners haven't quite been firing like they were earlier in the season and perhaps she will need this debut. Powerless was behind the selection on debut and should improve for Tim Easterby.

This seller has been used in the past by the Middleham Park Racing Club to try and cast off some of their unwanted stock and perhaps CANFORD CROSSING will be primed to take this for them before venturing on to a new home. This owner/trainer/jockey combination teamed up to win this with Ventura Castle last year, and their runner this time round has some decent form, including a decent second at Chelmsford behind the well-touted Godolphin three-year-old Jufn. A repeat performance of that, rather than his recent form, would more than suffice here. The frustrating Samsonite ran better last time and is feared most ahead of Italian Beauty.

INVICTUS has an intriguing profile for Micky Hammond, having won three flat races in Europe before joining his base in North Yorkshire. He was initially tried over jumps before making his UK flat debut at Pontefract last month, and that was an encouraging effort on heavy ground that probably wasn't ideal for the four-year-old. He might be able to take advantage of the better conditions here, and an unchanged mark of 85 could prove to be a bit of a steal for connections. El Beau has gone well in this sphere in the past and should be fit having been on the go earlier this year over hurdles, while New Strategy is unexposed on turf and a four month break may have freshened him up.

WISHING WELL is officially 1lb well-in at the weights running off the same mark as when a neck second at Thirsk 12 days ago. THANKYOU STARS made a debut full of promise when hitting the line hard over 6f at Doncaster a fortnight ago and she probably bumped into one. A neck second to Time Check, a filly that had ran well on her Kempton debut in December '14, the front two pulled a couple of lengths clear of the third horse and, lining up in receipt of weight from the boys, she's open to any amount of improvement. General Alexander brings a mark of 78 to the table and cannot be discounted, while Line Sport is also respected on his racecourse introduction for a powerful operation.
