Bill Plumb returned to winning ways at Yarmouth last month but a 4lb rise will make life tougher for him here. With that in mind, preference is for CARGIN BHUI, who was only beaten half a length into third over 6f at Carlisle last time and the handicapper looks to have been generous to leave him on the same mark. The recent Southwell third Mattice may prove to be the main threat on this occasion.
A tricky contest to open the card, MATTICE was a winner off the mark of 59 at Carlisle back in July and has since placed on two other occasions, which includes a 3rd last time out off a 1 lb higher mark than what he is currently on. A winner off the mark of 75 just last year, if he can replicate his older form, then he can get his head back in front here after a few good efforts the last two times. Minnesota Lad has not won since Doncaster last June but has been creeping down the weights recently and is a bit lower than what his mark was at the start of the season. He has run once at this venue in the past and came 3rd; therefore, he is sure to do well here off a reduced mark. And Missmimi comes into this off bottom weight and was a winner earlier on in the season off the mark of 49. She also placed on her current mark back in July; therefore, she can do the same here in this contest.

The one to beat is clearly KIND TOUCH, who made a winning debut over 5f at Ripon last month and the third from that contest has won subsequently. With the prospect of more to come, Richard Fahey's colt can maintain his unbeaten record. Qila was far from disgraced when fifth on his racecourse bow earlier in the month and has to be noted as a result. Any market support for either of Master Of Shanghai or Starmade would be of interest.
This looks to be another good opportunity for KIND TOUCH to notch up another victory to his name; a nose winner at Ripon on his only career start so far, he does have to carry a penalty in this, but his rivals don't particularly look as strong as last time. He kept on very well that day and got the better of a horse with plenty of prior experience, who has since gone on to win himself. The form of that debut maiden victory has been franked, and given the nature of this contest, he can defy the penalty here and make it back-to-back victories to kickstart his career. Qila was 100/1 when coming 5th on debut at Newcastle last time out; he was only beaten by 4 lengths in the end, and that looked like a pretty strong novice contest on paper. He can back that up here and run into the places behind a potentially talented rival. And Sea Her Excel did finish down the field on debut but was not beaten all that far; with the experience now under her belt, she is sure to improve; therefore, she can fill the places here.

SILVER CHAMBER only just failed to follow up her Ripon success when a head second at Windsor last time. A reproduction of either of those efforts would give William Haggas' filly a big chance here, despite being on a career-high mark. The consistent Percy's Daydream is likely to be in the mix once again, while Twilight Moon and Yorkshire Lady complete the shortlist.
A decent little handicap contest on paper, William Haggas has a 31% win strike rate with his horses that have run at this venue for the last 5 seasons; therefore, SILVER CHAMBER is the one to beat here. She has been in cracking form lately, winning on one occasion and placing on another two, with that victory coming in a class 4 handicap contest at Ripon off the mark of 65. She was then beaten off a 4 lb higher mark next time out but was beaten by a real improver and did pull clear of the 3rd place finisher. Now running off a 2 lb higher mark than last time, in a smaller field, she can get her head back in front. Mrs Twig is yet to win this season but has been running well and creeping down the handicap slightly. She can back that decent 3rd up from last time by running well here, but she might have to settle for another place finish. And Percy's Daydream has won 2 races in just 7 runs; she has been running very well lately, but given the nature of her opposition today, she will have to settle with filling the places for connections.

There are no outstanding claims in this line-up, but it is SALARIA who makes the greatest appeal. Charlie Clover's new recruit didn't see out 1m4f at Catterick when last seen in May but she had been largely consistent prior to that and a breakthrough triumph should not be far away. Shabu Shabu has proven far more effective on the turf so his latest Kempton effort is best forgiven. Free Pic is another to note.
BRETTON WOOD was given an opening mark of 73 last season, and he has since been going down and down the ratings; now into the 50s, he could be well handicapped here given how well he ran in his novice days. A 4th at Ffos-Las on debut for the yard, he did disappoint last time out, but the jockey reported he was too keen and kept hanging right-handed throughout the race. He is well bred but clearly has his own way of running, but given the fact he has dropped 14 lbs since his opening mark could mean he is primed and ready to strike in this. Mc'Ted is a six-time winner, and although not the force of old these days, he did put in a decent enough 2nd place finish off a 2 lb higher mark at Brighton back in August. He is sure to go well once again and could land in the places. And Mrbluesky was a winner off the mark of 59 back in February; now 1 lb lower than that mark here, he can bounce back to form but might have to settle with a place.

Sweet Kiss got up in the closing stages to score under Jake Dickson at Leicester recently and the daughter of Ulysses merits plenty of respect. However, preference is for LIGHTS GO DOWN. Mick and David Easterby's gelding bumped into a progressive rival when filling the runner-up spot at Ayr in July and compensation could be on the cards. Space Raider is a player too.
Tim Easterby's horses have been in great form lately, and their SWEET KISS has been at the forefront of that with 2 wins in her last 3 runs. The first victory came at Doncaster last month when dotting up by a length and a half in the end, before going on to come 4th next time out and then get her head back in front at Leicester last time out. She kept on very well and was game as anything under Jake Dickson; the young apprentice takes the ride here again, and given the fact he has won twice on her, it is clear to see he gets a real tune out of her. Just 3 lbs higher in the weights from last time; given her current form, she can strike once again. Lights Go Down is yet to win in 7 career runs but was a decent 2nd last time out and runs off the same mark here; he can go well but might have to settle for another place finish here. And Quirke On Parole won at Beverley in August; she has since backed that up with 2nd- and 5th-place efforts off a few pounds higher in the weights. She is sure to run well again but will have to settle with filling the places.

William Haggas landed the corresponding event 12 months ago and could do so again courtesy of National Park, who sets the standard with an official rating of 81, although INFLUENTIAL is preferred. Roger Varian's colt made a pleasing introduction at Yarmouth in May and should be more streetwise this time. Bambalam enters calculations, while market support for debutant Neptune Street would be noteworthy.
The William Haggas horses have continued in brilliant form all season, and given the fact the yard have a very good strike rate at this venue, NATIONAL PARK can get off the mark at the 4th time of asking in this contest. 4th on debut at Kempton, he was then beaten as the odds-on favourite at Newcastle in May before going on to then place again, this time at Wolverhampton. Not beaten that far in all of his races, he is having his first run since the gelding operation today; therefore, no matter what he does here, he will come on for the run. It certainly looks as if that op will do him well, and he can get off the mark here for the very first time. Influential was a decent enough 5th on debut at Yarmouth in May; he does have a break to overcome here but would have learnt plenty on debut. He is sure to run well in this for a yard in great form at the moment. And Bambalam has placed in 2 of his 3 races so far and has had the gelding operation completed as well. He is sure to come on for that but might have to settle with just landing a place here.

YOUNG MERLIN was rated as high as 78 in his pomp and made a pleasing debut for the Rebecca Menzies stable when runner-up off this mark of 60 at Musselburgh in July. A change of scenery might be just what the nine-year-old needed and, with the talented Elizabeth Gale taking 5lb off his back, he is fancied to play a leading role. Dereham has been running consistently well this year and should give another good account, while Captain Potter has every chance.
A real attritional 2-mile contest here; DEREHAM has been in cracking form this season, with the John Berry gelding running on just 4 occasions, winning once and placing on the other 3 runs. A victory at Newmarket in June off the mark of 52, he has since gone on to place 2nd at Yarmouth last month and 3rd at Ripon just a few weeks ago. He is set to run off the same mark here as last time, and with this being a slightly easier race on paper, he can get his head back in front and continue the yard's very good strike rate for the last few weeks. Young Merlin has won over hurdles as well as on the flat, and with a good 2nd at Musselburgh last time out on his yard debut for Rebecca Menzies, he can back that up with another good run here off the same mark as last time. And Glory And Honour is a multiple chase and hurdle winner, plus a three-time winner on the level. He has been in good form during the summer; when running over obstacles, he can continue that form on the flat in this contest.

Altmore made an encouraging stable debut for Edward Bethell when a staying-on third over 7f at Southwell and he's of huge interest stepping back up in trip off the same mark, but MILTEYE shades the verdict in receipt of 8lb. The five-year-old has been in excellent form of late and, with Aiden Brookes' claim taken into consideration, he effectively lines up off the same mark as when readily making all at Carlisle latest. Great Blasket and Garden Oasis are others to keep an eye on.
The form of MILTEYE did fall off slightly last season, but he has been in excellent form this season with multiple wins and places, which includes 2 wins in his last 3 runs for Harriet Bethell. A winner at Carlisle back in July when sent off as the 4/1 favourite, he then backed that up with a 3rd next time out before going on to get his head back in front with a victory at Carlisle once again. It is clear to see he likes Carlisle, but he has only run at this venue once previously, which was a 2nd place finish back in April, when his form really started to turn around. Given his form at present, he is the one they have to beat here in this. Terries Royale is relatively lightly raced compared to these; a winner in September, he has not run much in 2025 but did have the pipe opener at Ascot a few weeks back. He is sure to come on for that run and can go well in this contest. And Mount King won off the mark of 67 a few runs back; now just 4 lb higher, he can go well here but might have to settle with filling the places.
