That looks useful form in the context of this event and he can land a first victory over timber. Rouge Et Blanc is a massive danger on the evidence of his last run, beaten a quarter of a length by Trenchant, but that was on heavy ground and he remains untried under these conditions. Patriot, National Heritage and Give Us A Gander have all shown promise in bumpers.

DOCTOR DAVID is very useful at his best as his victory over Kalahari King, albeit on soft ground at Haydock, amply demonstrated. He then ran I'msingingtheblues to under three lengths in a valuable Doncaster handicap, a repeat of which would suffice here. He disappointed last time at Sandown but should get a soft lead and get his rivals on the stretch. Salford City made a pleasing start to his chasing career last summer and is an obvious threat, especially given the sparkling form of his yard, while Premier Dane will find this easier than when unplaced at Grade 1 level last time.

QUINY BOY has been sent on the trek from Somerset and the gelding has recently demonstrated his ability to act on a firm as well as a soft surface with two solid performances, latterly a close third in a competitive Wincanton handicap. He has been raised 3lb for that effort but is still open to improvement over timber and can give a good account here. Mad Moose suggested that good ground will see him in a better light when second to Rockiteer last time and his yard has a superb record here. Palos Conti and Quatro Pierji are others to consider in an open heat.

GREAT APPROACH has a tough task off topweight but the suspicion remains that he has the ability to be significantly better than he has displayed in his career to date. That view gained credence last time when he ran out a convincing winner of a competitive Bangor handicap and he is worth risking here to confirm that improvement. C'Monthehammers is a potent threat, revealing much-improved form last time when easily outpointing Le Vert Galant at Uttoxeter. He likes the ground and should progress again on this handicap debut. Merigo has no trip concerns and looks sure to give a good account.

FIRST BOY made a mistake or two when beaten half-a-length by Super Baby at Kelso, having ran out an easy winner of a modest handicap at Bangor. He seems to have a future over fences and seems on a fair enough mark. Sammy Spiderman has enjoyed a good campaign but has been punished accordingly by the handicapper and, of greater concern, is unproven under these conditions. He'll go well if handling the ground, while Et Maintenant and the possible improver, Golden Child, also enter calculations. Guns And Butter will get it right one of these days and is considered.

Russian War already has two C&D bumper wins to his name and the stable continues to show plenty of sparkle here. The Moscow Society gelding looks sure to go well in his hat-trick bid but is narrowly passed over, after a 285-day absence, in favour of General Miller. Nicky Henderson is a master in these races and the selection clearly knew his job when obliging first time up at Kempton in January. He looks a useful prospect. Claude Carter and Willie Hall showed plenty of promise last time and money for debutants Montoya's Son or Sheriff Hall would be significant.
