While Annie's Fortune failed to set the world alight on debut at Haydock, SUMMER ISLES caught the eye when sixth (beaten just two and three quarter lengths) over the 6f Rowley Mile course last month and Ed Dunlop's Exceed And Excel filly is taken to open her account with improvement forthcoming. Richard Hughes is forced to ride Glossy Posse instead of Fleeting Smile (500,000 dollars), who is partnered with Hamdan Al Maktoum's retained jockey Paul Hanagan. but the pair warrant the utmost respect along with Newfangled on their respective racecourse debuts.
Some very interesting newcomers on show here. The market will obviously reveal more but the Hannon team have really hit top gear with their juveniles in recent weeks and Fleeting Smile and Glossy Posse make obvious appeal, the latter just given the nod. Singapura and Newfangled are a couple of other likely types on paper.

Athenian hasn't looked back this term and has clearly progressed from two to three but Sir Mark Prescott's filly is now contesting her third race in 11 days and another 6lb penalty for her recent Chepstow win might just bring the winning run to a halt. With that in mind, PLACE IN MY HEART gets the vote for George Baker on the back of a pleasing Kempton reappearance effort last month. She wasn't far away in a Listed event at Redcar as a juvenile and is expected to prove a class above now tried back over 6f on quick ground. Isola Verde made a good impression on her Redcar debut and is another for the shortlist.
Athenian is clearly well ahead of the handicapper at the moment and will prove popular in her hat-trick bid, but she may have her work cut out up against the well-bred Isola Verde, who made a deep impression when scoring at Redcar last month and is open to any amount of improvement.

CHEWOREE has been handed 7lb for her Newbury success on quick ground last month and, now the penny appears to have dropped, connections clearly feel she is up to exploiting this revised mark of 80 with the booking of Ryan Moore looking significant. Red Larkspur has been given another chance off this mark of 78 and cannot be ruled out on the back of a good run at the Berkshire track last time, while Bella Ophelia has claims if her all-weather form can be transferred to turf.

SHANTARAM will be all the rage and the 104-rated son of Galileo can finally open his account for John Gosden. Some may question his attitude at this stage, having been narrowly run out of his first three starts, but he looked a horse with a serious future on the Rowley Mile track two starts ago behind Model Pupil (subsequently second in the Chester Vase) and he confirmed that promise when finishing within 1 length of Main Sequence (subsequently second in the Epsom Derby) in the Group 3 Derby Trial Stakes at Lingfield latest. That form is good enough and he can get the better of Edraaq and Black Mascara.
Impossible to oppose Shantaram, who should take this without breaking sweat. Mashaari can make it a 1-2 for Gosden.

ESCAPE TO GLORY is clearly more effective over 7f and proved that when scoring on fast ground at Folkestone nine days ago. The lightly-raced colt won a shade cosily that day under William Buick, a performance which suggested there could be another big run up his sleeve under this 6lb penalty. Of the others, My Son Max arrives boasting a similar profile and looks to have plenty in his favour, while Azrael rates best of the rest.
Mubtadi wasn't the most consistent for David Simcock last year, but he would have gone close with a clear run starting out for his new yard at Newbury last month and looks worth chancing here. Illustrious Prince and Escape To Glory look the best alternatives.

For all Trois Vallees was impressive when breaking his duck at Kempton last term, he may just need this first run for 263 days, so JUNGLE BEAT gets the vote. John Gosden's Galileo colt drifted notably in the market when making his reappearance in a Listed event on the Rowley Mile track in April and, while looking badly in need of the run that day, this drop into handicap company may just do the trick and it is tough to forget how well he shaped in a Newbury maiden as a juvenile. Thomas Chippendale is another expected to have come on for his seasonal reappearance.
King Edward entry Thomas Chippendale is better than he could show in the London Gold Cup last time and remains open to plenty of improvement. Jungle Beat looks the main danger, although Sheikhzayedroad isn't one to dismiss out of hand.

Dellbuoy created a favourable impression when staying on well to score over 7f on his Kempton debut in March, but while this step up to 1m is expected to suit, he might just bump into a few too good here. It is interesting that Sir Michael Stoute opts to come back to 1m with Counsel after his son of Dansili looked crying out for a step up in trip at Sandown the last day, so MAYO LAD looks the one to be on. RED LOVER wasn't far away off this mark in better company at Leicester last month and, while still a maiden after six career starts, he looks handicapped to get competitive and this drop in class on better ground may just do the trick. Chain Of Events has been handed 6lb for his recent Sandown win and warrants a place on the shortlist but Red Shuttle is feared most on the back of a solid effort on the Rowley Mile last month.
