It could pay to side with GEORGE FENTON and Connor Beasley, who has impressed this season. The four-year-old son of Piccolo should arrive full of confidence after gamely regaining the winning thread at Thirsk (6f) on Monday and a 6lb penalty may not be enough to anchor him if arriving here in the same mood. The combination of being dropped in grade and stepped up in trip should see Mysterious Wonder run well, while John Coffey, One Kool Dude and Monel also hold claims in a competitive opener.

Watch out for: Mysterious Wonder (7)

One Kool Dude ran well over C&D last week and is of obvious interest off the same mark but Mysterious Wonder could be the one to beat. There's been definite promise this summer and his stable are on the crest of a wave. George Fenton might prove best of the rest.

Two narrow defeats were followed by a slightly disappointing effort on soft ground at Carlisle (5f), but he is forecast to get his favoured conditions this evening and could capitalise on a 2lb drop in the ratings. Looking for one who may go well at a price, Rosebay Coral wasn't beaten far in a decent York handicap and has subsequently been lowered 4lb.

Two wins from her last three starts show the six-year-old daughter of Medicean is arriving at the top of her game and another big performance looks assured under talented apprentice Raul Da Silva. Illustrious Prince must enter calculations lining up off the same mark as when beaten three parts of a length over 6f at Pontefract, while Strong Man, Mutafaakir and Ted's Brother, who represents last year's winning trainer, add further spice to the contest.

The obvious danger looks to be Gran Canaria Queen having won three of her four starts so far this year, while Dartrix's recent form has been good and she was successful when last visiting Gosforth Park, so it would be foolish to write her off.
