CIVIL UNREST has developed a reputation as a Hexham specialist and the 10-year-old won well at the North East venue last month after rallying gamely in the final stages to fend off the challenge of an improving runner-up. James Ewart's charge reverts back to hurdles off an unchanged mark and could be capable of accounting for a modest bunch of contenders headed by Urban Kode. The latter has been dropped back to a mark of 99 and that could see him return to form, while Nafaath also enters calculations following his triumph at Uttoxeter.
RIOJA DAY has yet to taste success over hurdles, but a small field/sharp track scenario is surely his best chance of rectifying that, and from a basement mark, he really should be competitive. Last-time-out winners Nafaath and Civil Unrest will have their supporters, but they aren't convincing, so Donna's Pride is feared most.

First-time cheekpieces made a big difference to the performance of JOHN WILLIAMS at Hexham last time so it is no surprise to see them left on today. The son of Presenting shaped as though landing a chase event at this level would come soon enough and a 3lb rise to a mark of 90 still leaves him relatively well handicapped. Ryalex remains lightly raced after just two starts over hurdles for Lucinda Russell and it would be no surprise if there was more to come from the five-year-old now switched to fences, while Roderick Random completes the list of likely contenders.
JOHN WILLIAMS shaped well and found only one too good at Hexham on his latest outing, and a repeat here should see him make a bold bid back up in trip. Chase-debutant Ryalex is interesting and market support would look significant, whilst Thankyou Very Much is also worth a second look.

This looks a trappy contest on paper with massive question marks over all competitors but preference goes to ENDEAVOR, who can be forgiven a disappointing run over hurdles last time at Perth and, in a contest that lacks a solid option, he looks the tentative one to side with. SHANTOU TIGER took apart a weak handicap hurdle at Bangor last Tuesday in taking style when bolting up by 15 lengths and, with this field not possessing much that could threaten him, he looks a fairly solid option again as long as he has recovered from last week's exertions. Rev Up Ruby is entitled to have improved for her return to action at Hexham last month and is back on the same mark she won off two starts ago at Cartmel, while Mad Money would have claims if bouncing back from a poor effort when sent off favourite at Hexham in September.
SHANTOU TIGER bounced right back to his best when running out a 15-length winner at Bangor last week and he will prove hard to beat turned out under a penalty if in the same form.
