Those with form contested the season's opening juvenile hurdle at Hexham when Costa Percy prevailed by a length from City Dreamer in a desperate finish. Much will depend upon their respective levels of improvement from both the run and in hurdling technique as to who comes out on top here, although the Alan King horse should reverse placings on 7lb better terms. Parkwarden and Hot Lick, well behind the aforementioned pair, will need to improve considerably. However, if BOWBAN repeats the level of form achieved in three Flat maidens, he could prove good enough to make a winning debut over timber.

PRAIRIE IMPULSE scored pretty cosily when sent off a massive outsider at Sedgefield last time but that was only a fifth start over timber and the penny may have dropped for the Rebecca Menzies filly who travelled sweetly throughout that contest. This will inform if that was a fluke but the style of her success was convincing and she's only been raised 3lb. Louloumills didn't really fire last time around the idiosyncracies of Cartmel and should go well on this more conventional track. She looks the main danger with Kristal Hart and Chance Taken next best.
Hard to enthuse over this bunch, but KRISTAL HART takes a drop in class, and as a multiple Flat winner, she really should be very competitive. Bygones For Coins doesn't possess the most solid of profiles but she is well handicapped on her best form, while Running In Heels probably merits a second look from her basement mark given she's a triple-point winner.

Three of the top four retain maiden status under NH rules. Racing Spirit is preferred of the top two but maybe ROCK N'STONES can break his duck here. He's gone well on both starts for Mark Walford, including a respectable run over C&D last time and should give his part-owner/rider a good spin. Overtoujay is a gradual improver who'll appreciate the drop in trip but That Man Of Mine is the main threat as he's well treated with the selection on recent running, his best form for quite some time. The question is whether he'll back up that improvement here.
TURKEY CREEK showed that plenty of his ability remains intact over C&D 3 weeks ago and has to have a shout if building on that. Overtoujay rates a far more solid proposition for those looking for a safer option, while Rock N'Stones and That Man of Mine are closely matched with the selection from last time.

No doubt Moabit needed his first start over fences when easily put in his place by the in-form Cobra De Mai at Huntingdon. He should come on for the run appreciably as he embarks on his usual spring and summer campaign. However, this looks quite a tricky assignment and THE TAILGATER is preferred. The Jonjo O'Neill charge has taken to fences in some style and ran a cracker last time when just going down in a three-way finish with Midnight Cowboy and Red Hanrahan at Warwick. He showed a good attitude that day, rallying well. Work In Progress cannot be discounted.

A very competitive contest for the time of year but the nod goes to EARTHMOVES, who was an 11-length winner at Ffos Las late last month. He represents a yard who have won this race twice in the last four years and a mark of 124 may still underestimate this seven-year-old. Viens Chercher was highly tried last season and he could prove to be the main danger, ahead of Mont Royale and The Clock Leary.
VIENS CHERCHER was a winner over hurdles here in 2015 and made it 2-2 at this venue when landing a novice chase in October. The 6-y-o has held his form well since and is taken to maintain his 100% course record. The Clock Leary, still nicely treated despite going up 8 lb for his victory at Bangor, is next best ahead of fellow last-time-out winners Jovial Joey and Earthmoves.

DA BABA ELEPHANT was an impressive winner at Hexham last week and a 7lb penalty should not stop him from going extremely well, as long as he has fully recovered from those exertions. Copperfacejack remains a maiden but he often finds himself in the mix and can do so once again, while any market support for Washed Ashore would have to be noted.

Canford Chimes was a useful performer for Alan King and he was last seen winning at Fontwell for his previous connections. He was subsequently sold for 31,000 pounds, which is not a lot for a bumper winner, and it is always hard to carry a penalty in these type of events. With that in mind, the preference is for SAMSON THE MAN following his narrow defeat on debut at Southwell a few weeks ago. Scottsdale is another to note, while Young Sunshine is an interesting newcomer.
Brian Ellison has a good record in these events and SCOTTSDALE is taken to build on a couple of promising runs last autumn and make a successful return under Brian Hughes. Samson The Man was a promising second on last month's Southwell debut and should push him close, while Canford Chimes, who has changed hands since his Fontwell win, should be competitive under his penalty.
