DARROUN shaped with plenty of promise on his first start for Willie Mullins on New Year's Eve and is expected to have come on for the run. With this looking a wide-open affair due to the large field, the four-year-old might be on offer at a reasonable price and with that Punchestown run working out nicely, he looks the one to be on. Dermot Weld's Hisaabaat must be considered a threat following his runner-up effort behind Ut De Sivola in Grade 3 company last time, while To The Sky is another to consider.
Tony Martin runs a couple of interesting hurdling debutants, Military Bowl having an especially appealing profile, but this should rest between Darroun and Hisaabaat, and Dermot Weld's gelding gets the vote after giving a good account in a Grade 3 last time.

When contesting a competitive maiden hurdle here over Christmas, AUPCHARLIE was beaten when odds-on favourite but hinted that a step up in trip was required. Granted exactly that here, Willie Mullins' gelding can break his duck over timber. This is by no means a foregone conclusion and it would be dangerous to rule out Thouva, who will have learned a lot from his jumps bow at Punchestown, and classy bumper performer Bridgets Pet, who makes his debut in this sphere.
Aupcharlie has proved costly to follow in 2 starts over hurdles to date (beaten at odds-on both occasions) but the step up to this trip may well bring about improvement, so he is well worth another chance. Competitive Edge and Thouva rate the main dangers.

A fascinating renewal that can go the way of SIR DES CHAMPS. The unbeaten six-year-old added a Grade 2 to his tally at Limerick over Christmas and Willie Mullins' 2011 Cheltenham Festival winner can continue on an upward curve over fences. Hidden Cyclone shouldn't be ignored having given the reopposing Fists Of Fury a beating over hurdles two starts ago. He continued his fine run of form when looking every inch the chaser on his first start in this code here last month and the 5lb he receives from the selection is a big plus.
Both Sir Des Champs and Hidden Cyclone have the potential to go to the top of the tree in the novice chasers' division, and there's not much to choose between them here. However, with the former penalised for his Grade 2 victory, Hidden Cyclone is taken to come out on top. Donnas Palm is the clear pick of the remainder.

Seabass has returned from a layoff in sparkling form, and extended his winning sequence to four with a gutsy 2m4f success at Limerick last month, but a further 9lb may be enough to halt him here. Irish Grand National hero Organisedconfusion is now 13lb higher than for that success and consequently has no margin for error, likewise recent 2m1f winner Arklow Ger and Harold's Cross. Stephanie Kate's fine efforts in defeat in hot company over fences and hurdles make her an obvious threat now back in the handicap ranks but it could pay to take a chance on LAST TIME D'ALBAIN. Following his Navan victory, Liam Cusack's inmate lost nothing in defeat when a close third next time out and the fourth has since franked the form in emphatic fashion. He is still improving and a 4lb rise doesn't look beyond him.
A tough handicap in which Seabass is bound to be popular, there's a slight concern that an easier suface would be ideal for the 9-y-o, however. It can pay to side with Rare Bob who won't be inconvenienced by the prevailing conditions and is just 3 lb above the mark off which he won a similar event over C&D last term. Montan and Stephanie Kate head the list of dangers.

Former smart hurdler Aitmatov continues to knock on the door and looks sure to have his say again, but he may have to play second fiddle again, this time to FAR AWAY SO CLOSE. Third in the Champion Novice Hurdle at the Punchestown Festival last May, he learnt from his chasing debut fall to narrowly miss out in the mud at Naas over 2m when last sighted in October and further progress beckons. Having been placed on both starts starts over larger obstacles so far, Spanish Auriga is another to consider.
Aitmatov looks sure to get off the mark over fences before long but may again be confined to the runner-up spot here, as Far Away So Close will prove hard to beat if building on his latest effort at Naas. Colbert Station and Spanish Auriga are poised to do battle for minor place money.

With no previous racecourse form to go on, the betting market should be monitored closely with any significant support worth noting. Representing the powerful Noel Meade and Nina Carberry partnership, Ned Buntline is sure to be popular, while Jessica Harrington-trained pair Jezki and Parramatta are also respected, but the tentative vote goes to SILVER CONCORDE. Dermot Weld has won this race for the last two years and sends out this 27,000-guinea Dansili gelding in the hope of landing the hat-trick.
As ever in this type of race, the betting should throw up plenty of clues. However, Silver Concorde, who represents a stable that is 6-11 in bumpers at this track in recent seasons, earns the vote ahead of Jezki and Ned Buntline.
