Verdict

Competitive start to a cracking card. SILVER SABRE was all at sea in the early stages of her belated debut over this course and distance but once the penny had dropped, caught the eye with a smart finish, displaying a good turnof foot. She wasn't beaten far and, with natural improvement, can contest the outcome. QUEEN NIYABAH has filled the runner-up berth in both starts so wouldn't be winning out of turn - will make her presence felt. Well-bred WILD CREATURE finished 2nd behind a subsequent winner over course and distance last time out - can fight it out too. Others looking for minor money.

Verdict

Tricky. DOLLAR BRAND has decent form behind several useful sorts - needs todo more to win. Place chance. MACH FOUR was a close-up 2nd over track and trip when fitted with cheekpieces last start. Can fight it out again with headgear retained. BENJAMIN has a deep draw to negotiate but also the form to be competitive - include. NEGREANU drew widest but is open to improvement after gelding, warrants consideration. Frankel colt DIVERGENT is another to keep an eye on after a modest intro. LEGITIMATE showed promise in KZN, gelded now, warrants respect. TRAVEL MASTER is worth another chance, include.

GAINSFORD trounced his maiden rivals by more than 7 lengths over this trip when wearing blinkers for the first time - more needed against this opposition under 60,5kg but has most scope for improvement + headgear is retained. Verdict

Well-bred THE GATEKEEPER made the expected improvement when stepped up in trip last time, easily accounting for his maiden rivals over 1400m - there's more to come from him over the extra 200m, so it could pay to follow his progress. Fellow 3yo NOIR'S BOY should pose a threat in receipt of 3kg from that rival. Both DOUBLE BLUE and CONTACT ZONE made all to shed their maiden tags when last seen and could be hard to peg back under handy galloping weights - respect. They should ensure an honest tempo which should suit REX UNION, who also has claims. BROTHER LOUIS can't be discounted either.

However, it's difficult to look beyond INVINCABELLE who impressed as a 2yo, beating several smart sorts. Verdict

A typically high-class renewal, featuring a number of well-performed fillies and several others with untapped ability - all with progressive profile, though. Both PRINCESS CALLA and TRICKSTER fall into the first category, having run well in a 2yo Gr.1 when last seen. LEMON DELIGHT and FIFTYSHADESDARKER fit a similar profile but both had their colours lowered by ZARINA, who ought to improve for that run and be better suited by this step up in trip. VERONICA MARS and DAZZLING SUN can get a look in if overcoming wide draws. MARMALISA and TWO PENNIES are unknown quantities - warrant inclusion.

Verdict

PINKERTON is unbeaten this term, winning twice at this level over 1250m from as many starts. He finished well under a 4-point penalty last time and a further 2-point rise is unlikely to prevent him from completing a hat-trick. The step up to 1400m in his peak outing (3rd after rest/gelding) should also be to his liking. Hard-knockers MERAKI, who should be suited by conditions, and capable PHOTOCOPY (held by the selection) could get into the picture, though a bigger threat may come from likely improver LIBERTY HALL after a pleasing Cape comeback. CAPTAIN FLINDERS isn't without a chance either
