If anywhere near peak fitness on his first outing since finishing eighth in the Melbourne Cup last November, BEST SOLUTION will prove difficult to beat. He notched four Group-race wins in a row (three at the top level) prior to that respectable effort and is undoubtedly the class act here. Royal Line wasn't far behind subsequent Group 2 scorer Elarqam on his comeback run in the Listed Gala Stakes and he should be competitive, while Sun Maiden also warrants respect following her creditable fourth-placed effort in the Nassau.

There was something clearly amiss with Motawaj when he was almost pulled up at Newmarket latest and he is better judged on his impressive win at Sandown the time before. That said, he is 15lb higher in the ratings now and took quite a while to get going that day. With that in mind, preference is for GOSSIPING, who was not beaten far in a pair of valuable handicaps at Goodwood last month. Those runs came off a mark of 97 and his current all-weather rating is just 88, which is only 1lb higher than the mark he won off by five lengths at Epsom earlier in the year. The seven-year-old has won three of his eight starts over this C&D and he could take plenty of beating today. King's Slipper may be a touch high in the handicap right now but he has an each-way shout, while Kasbaan won over C&D on Tuesday and he should not be underestimated.

All five declared runners look to have some sort of chance but marginal preference is for Mark Johnston's handicap debutant AFRICAN SWIFT. There was certainly no disgrace in finishing fifth in what looked a red-hot maiden at York 15 days ago and he showed a liking for this venue when a short-head second over 7f the time before. Hexagon and Dubai Souq both found the target last time and are feared most, although Dramatic Sands and Always Fearless are no mugs either.

ENVISAGING was an impressive six-length winner under today's apprentice rider at Yarmouth last month and, although an 8lb rise will obviously make life a lot tougher, he is sure to go close if able to reproduce that level of performance on his all-weather return. Quick Breath wasn't beaten far in a 0-90 handicap over C&D last time and he warrants respect dropping in class with the talented Thomas Greatrex aboard, while Key Player, Brigham Young, Delilah Park and Atletico add further spice to the race.
