MASKED CRUSADER won by 31 lengths on his second start over timber at Carlisle and any doubts about the quality of the form was swiftly dispelled when the runner-up scored at Haydock. Donald McCain's charge can follow up, though Donny Boy is likely to put up stiff opposition. Nick Alexander's gelding was still some way off the pace when brought down in a Grade 2 here but did strike in a bumper at this track. Fingal's Hill won at Newcastle and could challenge, while Balkalin looks the pick of the unpenalised runners.

The Jad Factor won a lower-grade race than this at Newcastle but was beaten a long way over C&D earlier in the season and is back to the same mark, and preference is for LISSEN TO THE LADY. Sandy Forster's mare won over this track and trip in February and backed that up with a solid effort over slightly shorter at Ayr. Staying on well at the finish that day, she could improve back at this trip.

The Electrician sparked back to life when second at Ayr but that race came over 2m, whereas this trip might be something of a minimum for Lastofthecosmics, who went close over slightly further here two starts ago and is only 1lb higher after an ordinary effort at Musselburgh. IZZY'S CHAMPION gets the vote, though, as he overcame a mistake at the last to prevail over slightly shorter at Musselburgh. Lucinda Russell's gelding certainly wasn't stopping that day and could be better for this trip.

BAVINGTON BOB took his record over fences to three wins from four when winning at Carlisle, and a 5lb rise may not prevent Ann Hamilton's charge from completing the four-timer. Marown could pose the most serious threat, though his latest effort, when pulled up at Catterick, must be a slight concern. He was given wind surgery prior to that, so better might have been expected, but the return to some better ground could see him to greater effect. Crixus's Escape is now 12lb below his last winning mark, and a revival is not out of the question.

Spectacular Genius was unable to justify short odds in a Doncaster bumper in February but with that run under his belt, he may have more to offer. However, it was hard not to be taken by the winning debut performance of DOYEN DU BAR at Carlisle a year ago and the six-year-old can defy a penalty on his return. Nicky Richards is always worth following in this sphere and his newcomer Maughold Head also makes the shortlist.
