Eireann Cagney got a good tune out of Saligo Bay at Chelmsford last week, although that success came a bit out of the blue so he wouldn't be guaranteed to defy his 4lb penalty. Brodie Hampson partnered Throne Hall to win at Musselburgh and in Jersey last month, but the booking of Simon Walker for RIBBLE RIVER catches the eye and Kevin Ryan's gelding can confirm the promise of his comeback third at Pontefract. Unplugged landed this prize a couple of years ago under Serena Brotherton and his Nottingham reappearance wasn't bad.
THRONE HALL bounced back to form when kicking off his Flat campaign in early April having slid down the weights for much of last year (from a high of 83 in July to 58), and confirmed his well-being with a a win in Jersey at the end of April. His win at Musselburgh came over 2m but the drop back to this trip shouldn't prove too problematic and he can extend the recent purple patch. Saligo Bay poses the most obvious threat having got back in the winner's enclosure last time when dropped back to 1m2f after failing to fire for much of last season over 1m6f-2m. This trip suits and he's pretty versatile ground-wise. He should be in the shake-up. Unplugged is interesting having fallen to a threatening mark now he's hinted at a return to form with a decent pipe-opener last time. If he can build on that he will prove a force here, even if he might prefer conditions a bit quicker

Earnest Belief is a full-brother to Doncaster Cup/Lonsdale Cup hero and Gold Cup runner-up Coltrane and he shaped like a stayer when fourth on his introduction at Salisbury. He is expected to come on from the run, but the winner of that race then flopped in a Newmarket event in which POLE STAR went agonisingly close. Charlie Johnston's colt was confirming the promise of his debut fourth at Chester and can make it third-time lucky. Better is anticipated from the once-raced pair Valiancy and Warrior King.
POLE STAR stands out and can open his account on third time of asking. Just touched off last time in a classy Newmarket novice this looks a lot less onerous and Charlie Johnston's colt should prove tough to beat. Simply Ruby should relish the step back up in trip having found 1m2f a bit on the sharp side last time and can make the frame but Earnest Belief looks best placed to give the selection most to do having made an encouraging debut in a small field event at Salisbury. There should be plenty more to come and the Gosden's colt could give the selection a fright. Valiancy looks a likely sort who could take a big step forward and can't be discounted

The betting market is usually informative for races of this nature and names to conjure with include Jarham, Honved and Think Of A Name, who are all open to progression in handicaps. However, there is also plenty to like about L'KARAMA, who is a full-brother to dual Group 3 winner Greenland and he could have any amount of improvement to come now he switches to race on turf. The Rae Guest-trained Sunlit Uplands is another to keep an eye on.
PIETRO is interesting back on turf after a couple of decent efforts at Kempton (7f and 1m) to kick off this campaign. From a pound lower now and with conditions looking set fair for a bold bid he should go very close. Jarham stands out on handicap debut. Clive Cox's gelding was well supported in the market when runner-up stepped up to 7f at Kempton when last seen in December and showed enouth there, and in a soft ground maiden at Doncaster prior to that, to suggest a mark of 74 to be on the lenient side. If wound up for this return he should make his presence felt in a tight affair, while Think Of A Name demonstrated his well-being with an encouraging 3rd on season debut last time on ground that was a bit lively. He can make a bold bid and is a threat to all if his stamina holds. An improved effort from Chilly Breeze looks on the cards back on turf and he could go well

BEST ADVENTURE finished full of running when winning at Newmarket and looks to be one of those most ready to take another step forward now his stamina is called into question further. With Oisin Murphy back in the saddle, another bold showing is highly likely. Kurakka and Is I Right also enter the reckoning on the back of winning performances and need to be taken seriously. However, the class-dropping/handicap debutant Harpsichord could be a bigger danger to the selection, especially with her stamina more proven than most here.
