This will turn into a real test of stamina on the ground, conditions that BAYWING clearly relishes. A winner of all three of his starts this season, all of which have come on heavy going, the son of Winged Love is clearly on the upgrade and a mark of 125 may not be the limit of his abilities. The enigmatic Shotavodka showed very little interest last time, but he is unbeaten on going described as heavy and has dropped back to the mark he chased home recent winner One For Harry off in November. The first-time blinkers could well keep his interest in this race as well. Bold Sir Brian appears to be regressive but his run in a very competitive race last time wasn't all that bad and he is on a very low mark. If he is to win another race it could well be today.
This is BAYWING's toughest task to date but he looked to have plenty up his sleeve when completing a hat-trick at Uttoxeter last month and even a 13 lb rise might not be enough to stop him. Horizontal Speed travelled well for a long way over 3m at Cheltenham last time and looks capable of going close over this slightly shorter trip, while Shades of Midnight is still relatively unexposed.

A small but select field with chances given to all six runners. Venetia Williams' pair Otago Trail and Zamdy Man both hold solid claims, particularly the former who has won his last two starts and is the choice of Aidan Coleman, while Amore Alato was very unlucky in this company last time and could run a big race. Kylemore Lough looks a real mudlark (albeit a good one) and should give a good account, but BRISTOL DE MAI shades the verdict. He hasn't run a bad race since joining Nigel Twiston-Davies' stable and this race - the ground, trip and tough fences - looks ideal for him.
Most of these will win more races over fences and BRISTOL DE MAI is just preferred to Otago Trail today. He boasts some good form and was again impressive when scoring at Leicester last time for all it didn't look the strongest of contests. Amore Alato may have lowered the colours of the exciting Le Mercurey had he stood up at Ascot, and looks a big danger.

As none of these arrive here with any Graded form and just 6lb covers the likely top four in the betting on official ratings, it is probably best not to get carried away with any of the contenders. That being said, LE PREZIEN merits his place at the top of the forecast betting. He hasn't beaten anything of note in his two wins but he has done it well and his only defeat over hurdles came at the hands of Yanworth. Its'afreebee is proven on heavy going at this track and looks the most likely threat to the selection. Bigmartre and Vieux Lille also bring solid form to the table and are shortlisted.

A race that revolves around THE NEW ONE, as conditions are unlikely to suit but he should well prove a class above these. He struggled to catch Bertimont in this 12 months ago but that rival was very well ridden that, day having nicked a lead early in the straight, and he was well on top by the end. The biggest danger could come from the Dan Skelton yard once again as Fou Et Sage clearly relishes testing conditions. Rayvin Black is a really likeable sort but may struggle to confirm form with Melodic Rendezvous, who is 13lb better off at the weights following their meeting at Sandown a few weeks ago. The former top-class Captain Conan is best watched on his return from 682 days off the track.

Virak has been in excellent form this season and was an emphatic winner when last tried on this track, but he and easy course winner Seventh Sky have plenty of weight to contend with. FINGAL BAY was behind Virak at Ascot last time, but he gets a 1lb pull for being beaten less than a length by that rival and will be better suited by a slog in the mud than some of these. Reve De Sivola has never been quite as good over fences as he is over hurdles, but a 21lb lower mark over these obstacles would give him every chance, as he was a battling second in Grade 1 company over timber last time. Three of the last four winners of this have been sent off at 16-1 or bigger, so perhaps Nigel Twiston-Davies' duo of Splash Of Ginge and Algernon Pazham warrant a second glance.
REVE DE SIVOLA last ran over fences in 2011, but he has since made up into a very smart hurdler, and it looks quite a shrewd move from connections now trying to exploit his much lower chase mark. He hasn't always been the most economical of jumpers, but providing that holds out, he should prove very competitive in ground he revels in. Virak, Fingal Bay and Katenko are just a few alternatives.

VINTAGE CLOUDS romped to a nine-length victory from Baratineur over track and trip on soft ground in November and although he was beaten into second under a penalty over 2m here last time, it may have been the shorter trip, rather than the penalty, that was responsible for his downfall. Better is expected from the Sue Smith representative now he's stepped back up in distance and he shades the vote ahead of Raise A Spark, who was firmly in contention until clipping heels with a rival at Sedgefield latest.
