CONNETABLE is a very exciting French recruit and will be strongly fancied to land the spoils on his British debut. The form of his win and placed efforts in France are both working out well and forecast soft conditions will be right up his street. If he doesn't fire for whatever reason, possibly a lack of match fitness, then Gibralfaro will be the obvious candidate to take advantage. He made a big impression when winning on his NH debut at Kempton and is prominent in the betting market for the Triumph Hurdle. Swincombe Toby should run his race but will probably come up short.

Mountain King arguably produced a career-best performance when runner-up in a similar C&D event last time and he demands respect off 1lb lower, but BOLD BACHELOR shades the verdict in receipt of 25lb. He stepped up on his head defeat at Lingfield (first start for this stable) when when running away with a Fakenham handicap latest and is nicely weighted in this race despite going up 9lb in the ratings. Elenika has every chance if recapturing his penultimate Chepstow form, while Capilla shouldn't be too far away either.

This is all about UN DE SCEAUX. Last season's Arkle winner was his usual enthusiastic self and blazing a trail out in front when coming to grief at the second last on his reappearance at Leopardstown, a race in which the reopposing Simply Ned eventually finished a length second, and there are obvious concerns about his jumping again. However, that run may have to taken the freshness out of him a little and the Willie Mullins-trained seven-year-old is yet to be beaten when completing, so it seems he can only be beaten by himself today. Should his fencing let him down again a rejuvenated Sire De Grugy could be the one to capitalise, as he will relish this testing ground and won this race in similar conditions two years ago.

Regal Encore is likely to be a popular selection following his impressive win in a novice chase at Plumpton last month, but that run has resulted in an opening chase mark that is 15lb higher than his last winning mark over hurdles and 7lb above the mark he was a close fourth off over the smaller obstacles at Aintree. The best piece of recent form is brought to the table by ROYAL REGATTA, who easily beat recent Thyestes runner-up Mala Beach over C&D by 11 lengths giving him 3lb. Salubrious has not lived up to his hurdles form over fences yet but the drop back from 3m should help and he merits respect.

Western Cape won well over C&D last month, where he had KING KAYF and Minstrel Royal behind him in second and third respectively. That pair could well reverse that form due to the 10lb penalty Western Cape has to carry. Prior to that run, the selection had also finished second to a useful prospect from Dan Skelton's yard, and that form has been boosted with the fourth and fifth (Expedite) winning since. Masterplan and Duke Des Champs also dominated a race over C&D recently, though once again the swing in the weights makes the latter more interesting today.
