JOSHUA THE FIRST is starting to look a little exposed but is worth taking a chance on here. He may have found 7f at Ayr a trip too far when second there but his effort over 6f at Carlisle in better company last month looks the best form on offer here and he can get his head in front. Bryan Smart's newcomer Celestrial looks a well-bred sort and could prove the one for the forecast, while another newcomer, Sardanapalus from Kevin Ryan's yard, could also go well first time out.
Joshua The First sets the standard but there's a good chance one of the newcomers will prove too good for him back in trip. The market will give more clues, but as things stand Celestrial, who represents a stable that does well here, gets the vote.

In an open affair, it could pay to stick with the hat-trick-chasing MANDALAY KING. His wins here and at Doncaster have come over 5f but he's a C&D winner and scored well enough last week to suggest he can defy his 6lb penalty. The danger looks to be Red Cape, who hasn't won for more than a year but has been running with credit of late and is well treated on his winning form. Sunrise Safari, second at Beverley latest, is one to consider, along with Jarrow and Hinton Admiral.
Hinton Admiral is sure to appreciate the return to 6f and can reverse recent form with Mandalay King for whom another another career best is called for. The consistent Red Cape should make the places.

Convention looks to be going the right way but still has plenty to find before breaking her duck. Sunday Bess was clearly out of her depth in the Group 2 Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot but has shown enough in maiden company to come into the reckoning here. MUNGO PARK was only third at Warwick when stepped up to this trip this month but was right there until weakening close home. That was his first run for eight months and, if he's benefited from that outing, he could be up to landing the spoils today.
Sunday Bess will find this easier than the Ribblesdale, but she had looked a tad wayward at Haydock before that and may find the unexposed Mungo Park too strong here. Convention is the other to consider in a 3-cornered affair.

Malthouse has disappointed in handicap company since landing a double in May but should be considered now he doesn't have to give lumps of weight away, while Hunter's Light struggled in a Group 3 at Royal Ascot but has claims on an impressive maiden win at Newmarket on just his second start. It's worth siding with the progressive STELLA POINT, though, as she put in a fine effort when fourth in this grade at Newbury in May on her second outing. She broke her duck in fine style in a Doncaster maiden last month and looks capable of scoring here.
This looks a good opportunity for Hunter's Light to get back to winning ways with his Newmarket maiden win having been franked in no uncertain style by the runner-up. The consistent Malthouse will be hard to shake off though, and Stella Point leaves the impression she still has more to give.

Although the veteran ZOMERLUST isn't the most reliable nowadays, he won in this grade at Ripon last time out and is worth supporting here. He's picked up some decent handicaps in his day and appears to retain enough ability to see off these rivals. Tro Nesa has turned in a string of good efforts in handicaps since winning at Ayr last October but was beaten in this grade over 5f here last month. She, nevertheless, looks the one for the forecast as Sonny Red and Prince Of Vasa, who have claims on their best form, look out of sorts.
Zomerlust and Tro Nesa bring the best recent form to the table, and there's little to choose between them. The former may get the run of things up front, and gains a narrow vote as a result.

Hard to rule any of these out but it might pay to side with WICKED WILMA, who rarely runs a bad race. She hasn't won since her C&D success 13 months ago but that was off a 6lb higher mark and she's capable of landing this if putting her best foot forward. Tournedos has scored off much higher marks in the past but has struggled since winning at Carlisle in May, while Sharp Bullet is a consistent enough sort, but one win from 26 starts tells its own story.
Tournedos is going to be tough to beat so long as he doesn't fluff the start, as he's an in-form runner still figuring on a good mark in a race in which most of his rivals are out of sorts. Wicked Wilma and Sparking look best of the rest.

After recording a double at Carlisle, Alluring Star now appears to be in the grip of the handicapper, while Crown Ridge has turned in some good efforts lately but is 7lb higher than his winning mark. Smart Step has been well beaten in four starts this year but is dropping down the weights, though it might be worth taking a chance on PHILHARMONIC HALL to break his duck at the 14th time of asking. He's not the most consistent but he may have the measure of these rivals if on a going day.
A market check is essential regarding handicap debutant Oakwell, for whom Paul Hanagan is an eye-catching booking, but recent form points towards Alluring Star, who can beat the frustrating Philharmonic Hall if handling the step up to 1m.
