Even contest to kickstart Super Saturday and a terrific card of racing. VA VIA (3) was close up in the Prelude before going to Sandown and finding plenty of traffic. Switched off heels late and put them away very quickly in time that stacks up solidly. Have to think she can have more to offer and this is a nice chance for her. NANAGUI (5) also found some trouble last time. That was on debut at Caulfield behind a nice winner who turned around and ran well in the Diamond. She is sure to be popular. KIKI EXPRESS (1) was no match in that Diamond but it was a bunched finish and she wasn't miles away. Could be a little bit undersold back in class. Far more for RUTHLESS DAME (8) to run down this time but could only be impressed with the debut and comes here unbeaten for the top yard. MOKO (9) can improve in blinkers now.

The big question here is will TURAATH (1) cope out to the mile? Suspect that she will, and that being the case she holds a terrific chance having run gamely in the Futurity last time. Missed a run going into that so comes here fitter again. She's so reliable and the same has to be said for FLYING MASCOT (4) who has been outstanding in every run for the stable very much in form at the moment. No reason to think she drops away now with her mile run here in the spring as good as anything she has done. PROMISE OF SUCCESS (7) comes south looking for a good track and gets it. Nothing wrong with her effort on the heavy last time behind a winner who went right on with that. GROOVY KINDA LOVE (9) also arrives here having chased a smart winner last time. Blinkers are on and this looks a real target for her.

Two nice trials can have REMARQUE (2) ready to fire off the 168-day layoff. Pulled up with excuses in the Golden Rose but he had been good enough in the lead up to start single figures there. Can make a case he should have been closer to Paulele when he kicked off last prep and that is good looking form for this. GENERAL BEAU (1) was no match in the Oakleigh Plate but thought he ran well enough and this is more his level. He has been consistently good and so has GIMMIE PAR (6) who we have seen just four times but all four runs have said she is well above average. Two Flemington runs have been terrific as well. ZARASTRO (8) resumes with a nice profile. Two wins last time around and clearly held in high regard.

Key formline looks to be that of SIR BAILEY (4) and MERCHANT PRINCE (1) without a great deal to split the pair. The latter had the edge at Pakenham before Sir Bailey turned things around at Sandown last time, running nice late splits to score there and set himself up to give this a big shake. Merchant Prince has since run well in the Blue Diamond where he was staying on late as though 1400m would be ideal now. BONHEUR (13) is another that has been okay in fast races but looks a big improver up to 1400m. Query is the wide draw but great winning chance with any luck from there. MAN IN THE MIRROR (5) was okay on the heavy going last time. Debut said he was fairly smart and this looks a nice race for him. ARGENTIA (4) had to concede first run to the leader/winner in the Armanasco last time and she was perhaps just a touch flat off a big fresh win over 1200m. Stuck at it all the same and she's going to be a much better filly at a mile. From the same race it was hard not to walk away impressed with YEARNING (1) who powered through the line and she was terrific here in the Manifold back in the spring before winning the 1000 Guineas. No knock on her mile credentials! PRETTY AMAZING (8) is an interesting runner. Comes up in class but she has looked very sharp in a couple of wins and it would be a surprise if she was not capable of measuring up to most of these. From behind Yearning in that 1000 Guineas BARB RAIDER (3) has come back a winner in the Vanity and is clearly still heading the right way. She must have a hope.

Loved the return from LOST AND RUNNING (3) and he hits this at the right time to announce himself as one of the top sprinters around. Was on the heels of the topliners in the spring but looks to have come back better again and if that is the case he can be the one in a vintage Newmarket. HOME AFFAIRS (2) has established himself at the top. Coolmore win was brilliant and he was even better seeing off Nature Strip in the Lightning. Plenty of weight for a three-year-old but he has earned that. MASKED CRUSADER (1) was never a threat to him in the Lightning but things might be different up to 1200m now. Gets a chance to wind up into the race and we know that the talent is there on his good days. Also through the Lightning, SWATS THAT (14) was better than ever and she continues to stand up in these top sprints. Placed here last year and a better horse now. LEVANTE (6) comes across from NZ where she has established herself as the top sprinter. Terrific turn of speed. She can measure up.

Fresh run said he had come back in good form. SOCIALIST (7) ran well in the same race as Cardigan Queen and was shorter in the betting there. Has to be in the mix and so does CHARTRES (6) who was never a winning hope first up in a race dominated by the leader but stuck to the task well and that sets him up for a good preparation ahead.
