This race has an excellent roll on honour with Grade 1 winner Wishfull Thinking in 2010 and the recently ill-fated Many Clouds in 2013 and this looks a solid renewal on paper. Harry Fry has won this for the past two years and goes to the hat-trick with MISTERTON, who was last seen when appearing to lose his action at Cheltenham as he pulled up behind Pingshou in December. The son of Sagamix had looked on the upgrade prior to that and, providing he is over those issues, looks the one to beat. Mr Clarkson is unbeaten since joining David Pipe and is open to further improvement having won well here on his hurdling debut, while Fly Camp completes the shortlist having shown a fair standard to date.

FINIAN'S OSCAR has gained a huge reputation since he won a point-to-point at Portrush last October and was sold for 250,000 pounds at the Tattersalls Sales in November at Cheltenham. Since then he has progressed in a short space of time to win a maiden hurdle and a Grade 1 in the shape of the Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown when disposing of Capitaine with consummate ease. This looks a penalty kick with the opposition not within a stone of him on their form shown. Whatmore looks the most likely danger having run respectably behind Top Ville Ben on debut at Leicester, while the admirable Taws looks best of the remainder.

Since the inception of a Pertemps Qualifier at this meeting three years ago, two renewals have thrown up winners at the Cheltenham Festival the following month with Fingal Bay, who went onto success in the Final itself and returns once again today, and Unowhatimeanharry, who landed the Albert Bartlett 12 months ago. Red Sherlock returns from a 1068-day absence having been unplaced in the 2014 Neptune behind Faugheen but has plenty to prove in what looks a strong contest. Barney Dwan has been very unlucky throughout this season and the jockey switch to Jonathan Burke could potentially bring about improvement, but preference goes to IMPULSIVE STAR, a lightly-raced individual who could improve now in handicaps. Ballymalin, representing a yard who like to target this series of contests, and Rocklander, who is another in excellent form, must be considered.

Whats Happening was last seen getting the better of Perfect Candidate in a hard-fought finish at Cheltenham last time but that was 477 days ago and others arrive here match-fit. The latter was pulled up last time but previously showed some enthusiasm when second in a competitive handicap at Prestbury Park. Theatrical Star is a consistent enough type and looks to have the best chance of the two Colin Tizzard runners, but KAKI DE LA PREE could be the one to stop. The 10-year-old was in great form before a fall at Warwick last time out at just the second fence but he was relatively well backed there and a repeat of his second to Ballyboker Breeze at Bangor in December would suffice here.

That said, he cannot be discounted based on his fine form as a novice hurdler from last season. Preference, however, is for FLYING ANGEL who landed a Grade 2 at Warwick on Saturday and he could take plenty of beating with a repeat performance, despite conceding weight all round. It catches the eye that Robbie McNamara sends QUICK GRABIM over from Ireland yard to contest this rather minor event. The son of Oscar only found a potentially high-class performer too good on his racecourse debut and he confirmed that promise with an impressive victory at Leopardstown in December. Benechenko won narrowly on his Rules debut at Uttoxeter back in November but he did struggle under a penalty at Warwick last time, while Sir Egbert showed promise on his debut at the same venue. Linenhall would give the selection the most to think about if repeating his second to Agamemmon on his first racecourse appearance.
