In an open affair, it might pay to stick with last month's Fontwell scorer SOUTHWAY STAR. She hasn't proved the most consistent and carries a 7lb penalty but that was her second win from her last four starts and the penny may have dropped now. Santo Thomas has been off the track 18 months but has shown ability and looks the danger if ready to fire, while Homer Run and Peveril Pandora might not be too far away.
Homer Run caught the eye last time but Southway Star looks the more solid option with the promising Brendan Powell booked.

It's hard to see beyond David Pipe's NOTUS DE LA TOUR for the answer to this. The five-year-old has won both starts over fences so far this season and, although this represents his toughest task to date, has shown enough ability to suggest he can go a long way in this code. Walkon has proved a talented performer on the Flat and over hurdles and could prove a threat on his chasing debut, while Zaynar was third to Grands Crus at Cheltenham last time and is clearly getting the hang of things over birch.
Grade 1 winning hurdlers Walkon and Zaynar obviously warrant respect but Notus de la Tour has looked a natural over fences and can defy his penalty.

Although his jumping isn't always foot-perfect, POWER PACK JACK has won three of his last five starts over fences. He's up 5lb for a recent Carlisle success but the way he won suggests he can follow up today. Quazy De Joie has plenty of weight following a chasing double in the summer but the fitting of first-time blinkers might aid his cause, while Shaking Hands won well at Warwick in January but may be in the grip of the handicapper now.
Incentivise shaped well when fourth at Bangor in preparation for this, and he looks capable of defying top weight. Power Pack Jack and Quazy de Joie are the most obvious dangers in a race which may not be as competitive as the numbers suggest.

CLOSE HOUSE hasn't been out since March but looks the answer to this puzzle. Following an Ayr bumper win second time out, he put in a good second in better company on the level again. This doesn't look too stiff an introduction to the jumping game and he could prove up to the task. French import Reste Gosse has been absent even longer but could prove a threat, while Greywell Boy and Ambion Wood also have claims.
Unless there's real strength in the market behind the Hobbs French import Reste Gosse, this looks likely to develop into a match between Ambion Wood and Close House, the latter selected to continue the good run of David Pipe.

That was her first run in eight months and, with that outing under her belt and this drop in trip in her favour, she's taken to go one better today. Worcester bumper winner Strongly Suggested was a decent third at Bangor on his hurdling debut and looks the main threat, although Edlomond did enough on his jumping debut to be considered.
This looks effectively a straight match between Swincombe Flame and Strongly Suggested, and with the form of her course second working out well, Nick Williams' mare is taken to shade the verdict. Romeo Americo may fare best of the remainder.

PINGARO DE LA VIE struggled to get to grips with the chasing game last season but, after a morale-boosting hat-trick between the flags during the summer, broke his duck over fences last month with an emphatic success at Towcester. He's up 4lb in the ratings here but can follow up, with this slightly longer trip in his favour. Rockabilly, a hurdler winner here over this trip, ran well on his chasing debut and looks a danger while Overnight Fame can't be ruled out.

In a wide-open affair, it could pay to stick with STOCK HILL FAIR, who looked impressive when landing the spoils over 1m6f at Fontwell on his debut in October. He carries a penalty today for that success but he's entitled have learnt plenty from his debut experience and could have much more to offer now. The main danger looks to be the Paul Nicholls newcomer, Scary Canary, a well-bred sort related to some good NH sorts, but chances might also given to Saudi Pearl, Straigue Fort and Bit Of A Madam.
Scary Canary has to be of interest on debut given his connections but it's perhaps best to stick with those with experience. Saudi Pearl faces a speedier test than he did on his debut and gets the nod over previous winner Stock Hill Fair.
