Twice a track and trip victor and a three time Dundalk winner overall, PILLAR might be up to gaining an eighth career win. With 22 outings Pillar saw action more than any other horse in Ireland in 2020, and he has no secrets from anyone as he goes into battle for the 102nd time now, having begun at Nottingham way back in November 2015. A mare arriving here in good order like LUNASTAR isn't long about catching the eye. She was a two and a half mile handicap hurdle winner at Gowran in October, and should enjoy stepping up for this twelve furlong assignment. A previous winner at Dundalk, over a mile in November 2018, the selection has been third the last twice and she didn't really get the run of the race twelve days back behind Crest Of A Wave and Everyhouronthehour. One could imagine Rory Cleary playing a waiting game on Paul Flynn's seven-year-old from her wide draw in stall sixteen, and that approach certainly paid a dividend with her at Gowran. Elsewhere Majestic Jewel, Chateau Musar, Maricruz, Macaban City and Odd Venture will justifiably have their supporters.

BALLYCAINES has been knocking on the door of late and might be able to make the breakthrough now. Placed three times from four starts at the venue, the son of Finsceal Fior was a close-up third on his most recent start here last month. Gougane Barra and Boasty were both behind the selection on that occasion and they reoppose now. Tony Martin was full of praise for Siobhan Rutledge after she partnered Drakensburg to victory here on Friday and it'll come as no surprise if the pair manage to follow-up. Carrying a six-pound winners penalty, the seven-year-old gelding will again be aided by Rutledge's seven-pound claim. A chance is taken on THE ALPHA MAN. A good second on debut in March of last year, the son of Mastercraftsman was again placed on his next start at Gowran. Ultimately disappointing on his three starts since, the five-year-old gelding has dropped to a mark of 65, from an initial rating of 73. Previously trained by Richard O'Brien, he makes his debut now for Seamus O'Donnell and it'll be interesting to see how he fares here on his first start since August. Recent course and distance winner Blackstone Cliff is a more obvious contender and he is sure to have plenty of supporters with Siobhan Rutledge taking a valuable seven pounds off. Flylikeaneagle is also a recent course and distance victor and he might be able to back-up that surprise 66-1 success. Mick Halford and Colin Keane team-up with Spelga and he warrants the utmost respect, while others for consideration here are Reverberation and the Denis Hogan trained Allegio, who was once rated 104.

Zahee and Hidden Land are the joint-top rated here of those with a mark. The Adrian McGuinness trained former is without a win in eight starts and was disappointing on his most recent outings. Hidden Land has some decent French form to her name and it'll be interesting to see how she fares on her first start for Andrew Kinirons. Dedillon (a seventeen raced maiden) and Soineanta were second and third to Sienna Lady over the course and distance recently and there is likely to be little between them again. For a selection, FORBEARANCE makes most appeal. The daughter of Galileo was sent off at just 4/1 to win a maiden at Naas in July. She had a far from clear passage on that occasion and eventually finished sixth. The four-year-old bay should come on plenty for that debut effort and it'll be disappointing if she is not involved towards the business end here.

STAR HARBOUR has been progressing with each run and he might be able to make the breakthrough now. Fifth and fourth on his first two starts, the son of Sea The Stars was third on his most recent outing and had the re-opposing Barretstown a place behind in fourth. The selection also has the beating of Ben Siegel and it'll be disappointing if he can't account for his four rivals here. Joseph O'Brien is double-handed with Falsaron and top-weight Kadupul. The latter is the sole winner in the line-up and makes her debut for O'Brien in this mile contest, having been previously trained in the UK by William Haggas. Successful on debut, the daughter of Dark Angel was ultimately disappointing on her subsequent three starts, but should give a good account of herself now.
