Gordon Elliott has his string in fine fettle at present, so the vote goes to his French recruit MISSY TATA. She was last sighted finishing a good third in a competitive Auteuil event in June and falls into the 'could be anything' category in her Irish bow. Lake Champlain is 2-4 over hurdles and, despite conceding weight all round, she commands the utmost respect. Tiliver and Crocosmia are worth shortlist inclusion too.

De Name Escapes Me brings a decent level of form to the table after supplementing his Clonmel bumper success with a good effort behind the progressive Sandymount Duke at Punchestown in June. He makes plenty of appeal, but a chance is taken on ROUND TOWER, who went unsold despite attracting a bid of 95,000 pounds after his debut success at this track, and showed fair ability when runner-up at Killarney in May. A few fingers have been burned following Space Cadet, but he remains impossible to discount, and any market support behind Strangford Lough or Improver might be worth noting.

Watch out for: Space Cadet (8)

SPACE CADET has shown useful winning form in bumpers since finishing fourth over hurdles on his debut a year ago and can make a successful return to jumping after a break. De Name Escapes Me was a promising third on his hurdling debut for a new stable in the summer and looks the obvious main threat ahead of Karl Thornton's Round Tower.

Wes Hardin got off the mark at the second attempt over hurdles in good style at Listowel in June and is respected going handicapping for the first time. He joins Gentleman Duke on the shortlist, winner of a competitive handicap chase at Cork off 6lb higher earlier this month, but FETHARD PLAYER finished a one length second to Plinth in a Grade 2 at Tipperary on his seasonal bow and if that outing has brought him forward he should go close dropping back into handicap company.

Paul Nicholls' stranglehold on this race was ended by Gordon Elliott and Don Cossack last term, but PTIT ZIG can wrestle back the title for the master of Ditcheat. He was possibly feeling the effects of a heavy fall at Ascot when below his best in the JLT at the Cheltenham Festival, but had looked a most exciting prospect prior to that and his good record fresh is an added bonus. Clarcam is the chief threat and he shaped with promise on his reappearance at Gowran earlier this month. Shanahan's Turn can land the bronze medal ahead of Shadow Catcher.

Gigginstown House Stud have won three of the last four renewals of this contest and it would be a shock if DON COSSACK doesn't extend their impressive record in the showpiece. Gordon Elliott's stable star enjoyed a breakthrough season last term when winning the Melling Chase at Aintree and supplementing that success in the Punchestown Gold Cup in April. His effortless defeat of Roi Du Mee on his reappearance in October should have blown the cobwebs away and he is a hugely exciting prospect for the best staying chases this term. Rocky Creek can capitalise in any miscue from the selection as he goes well fresh, is a useful performer on his day, and finished a decent runner-up in this race last year.

THE DOORMAN showed ability throughout last season and being just a six-year-old there could be more progression to come from him, while he certainly looks on winnable mark for a horse who won on his seasonal debut a year ago. Russian Regent was second at Aintree a week ago off a 5lb higher mark, he is a consistent sort and should go well. The in-form Colms Dream must not be ruled out as he could not have been more impressive and Punchestown on Tuesday and if he has fully recovered from that effort then he is sure to be thereabouts.
