Few of these have shown any promise in their public appearances to date. SHOOTTHEDICE looks the likeliest to improve and Tim Ritchey's three-year-old is given the vote ahead of Andrea's Pearl and Pins 'N Needles. The former of these alternatives recorded a half-decent time when last seen, but the latter is probably the main danger, as he has a good third to his name back in August.
Nomoresurprises clocked the fastest time of today's starters last time out but Robert Klesaris's three-year-old may have a little more on his plate this time. GOLD MEDAL is the one that makes most appeal as he was far from disgraced in a decent heat when last seen on only his second racecourse appearance earlier this month. Parade Roll represents an in-form barn and may improve on his return to dirt.
This looks a pretty decent claimer on paper as six of the seven runners have at least one recent track win to their name, and despite Fuzzy Star being the most impressive last time, CONSERVATION is taken to bounce back to winning ways for the in-form Ryan Beattie barn. The selection has rarely run a bad race this term and looks ready to reverse the form with Tiffany Gold, Cross Keys, and Double Luck.
Only Wildcat Jessie has racecourse experience for this maiden and he certainly didn't set the world alight over C&D. With this in mind, SERIOUS FEVER and Storm Squall appear the best of the newcomers. The former represents a trainer-jockey combination that can do little wrong at present and his dam has had three winners from five starters. He gets a tentative vote.
DRIVINMISSDELORES could be the answer to this maiden. William Moran's filly has an in-form rider in the plate and looks well-drawn on the rail. She was a respectable third here last time out and may be able to improve on that effort today. Pursued and Palace Charmer look best of the remainder.
Anthony Dutrow and Ramon Dominguez cannot stop firing in the winners at present and are taken to come out on top with CAVALLO PAZZO tonight. The 3yo showed no ill effects from his ten-month absence when making all over 6f here four weeks ago. Favorite Song is also a speedy sort and can give the selection most to think about, while Scott Lake's Marathon Dancer has been knocking hard on the door of late and has to enter calculations.
With this field made up of mainly newcomers, experience could prove key and, with that in mind preference, is for TRIP TO THE BANK. The juvenile cost $165k as a yearling and has shown enough to suggest this is his for the taking. The well-drawn debutant Cuban Larry cost $125k and could fare best of the newcomers, while Munson Roy E. was heavily supported on his debut and is worth another market check this afternoon.
With many top barns represented this could go to anyone. Beat The Band showed a superb turn of foot to calmly pull clear of his rivals here latest, but that was over the extended mile and he may lack the speed to come out on top over 6f. Scott Lake is represented by Funny Woman and All Platinum, with jockey bookings suggesting the latter is the stronger fancied, but preference is for the well-drawn MINT LANDING. Anthony Dutrow's team are flying at present and she is taken to continue the fine form tonight.
The well-drawn SUMTHNTOSINGABOUT has finished ahead of the majority of this field on his last two starts and is taken to confirm his domination by following-up his recent C&D success tonight. Grand Banks was a length behind the selection latest but will need to improve to come out on top, while Set Em Up Joe broke his maiden tag at the fourth attempt here a fortnight ago and could prove the biggest threat.
