A tricky opener with most of the higher rated runners struggling to find their form. SCARPETA won three times over hurdles for Willie Mullins with a career high rating of 151. A reproduction of his second to Darasso at Killarney last May would easily be good enough here but his form has fallen off a cliff since. In his defence a number of those runs were over fences where he didn't jump well but his latest run over hurdles here in December was very disappointing. Fire Squadron and Buzz Light haven't been disgraced in handicaps and could pick up the pieces if the selection disappoints again, while Spare Brakes has generally been campaigned over fences of late but did win a claiming hurdle on his penultimate start at Limerick.

This is by nature a modest enough maiden being for horses who have run at least three times and not finished in the first three and perhaps DONT DOUBT ME can open his account. The Philip Rothwell-trained gelding has shown some promise including when fifth to Hiaou in a decent Punchestown maiden and again last time when only weakening on the run-in at Wexford. For The Cause has been let down by his jumping on a number of occasions and probably put up his best performance last time when sixth to the long odds-on Dartington in a 15-runner maiden at Navan earlier this month. Aqua Court has handicap experience and shaped quite well when fourth to Uncle Gerhard at Gowran, while Maxxum gave some encouragement last time when fourth over C&D.

PLAINS INDIAN looks the one to beat. The Andy Slattery-trained gelding filled the runner-up spot behind subsequent County Hurdle winner State Man at Limerick before two good efforts at this venue. He went close behind another favourite Gracchus De Balme before holding every chance when falling at the last over C&D earlier this month. God Help Us shaped well on a number of occasions here last year and now reappears after a ten-month break, while Layla's Daffodil would merit consideration on her third to Don Diablo at Down Royal last year but hasn't reproduced that form over the winter. MISE RAFTAIRE has run a couple of solid races recently and should be good enough to land a race of this standard. The Dylan Thomas gelding was third on his penultimate start at Punchestown and the runner-up Wild Hunt has scored twice since. Last time out the selection weakened late on when fourth to Missiee in Gowran and dropping back in trip now could help. Springfield Lodge won on her penultimate outing at Limerick and going back to two miles may also help her after she weakened to finish mid-division over two-and-a-half at Punchestown last time. Gargouille was no match for Bravo Team in a maiden hurdle here last time but it was a solid effort and back in handicap company she has a shout.

This looks a nice race for THE DECLAIMER on his chase debut as he just squeezes in off his hurdles mark of 109. The Arakan gelding has been viewed as a chaser long term and could be a bit better in this sphere. He was a good winner when last seen over timber at Thurles in November. Gavin Cromwell saddles four runners in the race and Shantou Lucky may be his best chance. He has chase experience and is entitled to improve from a nice run when a staying on third behind the short priced Mt Leinster at Leopardstown a couple of weeks ago. Yabo already has a mark of 109 over fences and is another to consider in a competitive heat. He bumped into one when chasing home Optional Mix at Thurles last time.

BLACKBOW should prove hard to beat here. The Stowaway gelding has to give weight away to his rivals but is a 155-rated horse and looks comfortably best. He has produced a few decent efforts this season, including when chasing home Captain Guinness in Grade 3 company at Naas last time. Spyglass Hill would appear to be next best, off a mark of 146 in receipt of 6lb. The fellow nine-year-old won a competitive handicap chase at Limerick on his penultimate start but weakened tamely when last seen at the Dublin Racing festival. Kildorrery should be the one to complete the trifecta.

It's interesting to see Patrick Mullins on board newcomer HIGH CITY ROLLER and he may be good enough to make a winning debut. The Arcadio gelding is a half-brother to a decent sort in High Stakes and is from the family of Stayers Hurdle winner Bacchanal. Stablemate Klarc Kent has run well in a couple of strong enough bumpers and is probably the form choice. He was a solid fourth to another stablemate Madmansgame at Navan last time and Jody Townend retains the ride. Gordon Elliott's charge Boulon Trou was beaten favourite on his debut at Limerick over Christmas but it was a decent run to finish third and he could progress. Golden De Coeur was collared late on in an Ayr bumper when last seen in November and is another that has to come into calculations.
