Le Briar Soul will be all the better for his debut over fences at Market Rasen last month and is still only lightly-raced. But narrow preference is for CARNIVAL TOWN, who has yet to prove conclusively he stays this trip on the prevailing ground but has run two solid races in defeat at Bangor and Kempton and is going the right way. Supreme Huntress was far from disgraced in a competitive handicap hurdle at Newbury last time and is another for the short-list now his attentions are switched to the larger obstacles.

Unusually for a Pipe inmate, WHISPERED SECRET looked as though he would benefit from the run when third on his reappearance at Newbury. This probably isn't as competitive as the numbers would suggest so clear-cut Leicester winner Deep Reflection must go on the short-list, despite having been raised 7lbs in the interim. Preference, however, is for ILE DE PARIS, who would surely have gone close over fences at Wetherby earlier this month had he not come down. Richard Lee's consistent sort is only 2lbs higher this afternoon and will see out this trip better than most. The latter could easily be a step ahead of the handicapper and advertised his well-being over hurdles at Taunton recently. SPARE CASH finished one place and a length behind What A Friend over C&D last month but Paul Nicholls' charge did have the benefit of previous racecourse experience having won a bumper at Newton Abbot in May. KINGSTON LANE looked a horse with a decent future when galloping to success over C&D on his racecourse debut. Runner-up Shining Gale has run well over hurdles since so the form looks solid and he may be good enough to give weight to Earth Dream, who was only beaten a neck at Ludlow despite showing signs of inexperience and will strip fitter here.
