The step up to this trip could be the making of MINELLA ROCCO, who appeared to be caught flat-footed in a tactically run affair over shorter on his reappearance. It's impossible to forget the impression he made over hurdles last season, and he is well worth another chance with a pipe-opener under his belt. Vicente concedes weight all round but he has a good record at this venue, including an authoritative victory over Un Temps Pour Tout last month. Blaklion was still in there pitching when coming down at the third last in that contest and merits respect, while Fletchers Flyer and Onenightinvienna lock horns again following their good battle at Exeter.

It was hard not to be impressed with the manner of The Cobbler Swayne's victory on chasing debut at Musselburgh, but he made a few mistakes that day and these fences won't be so forgiving. Preference is for the experienced GARRAHALISH, who ran well for a long way at Ascot last month and is now 2lb below his last winning mark. Kilronan High won nicely at Southwell is 5lb well-in under his penalty, while Roberto Pegasus and Hayjack are also worth a place on the shortlist.

A HARE BREATH landed a touch here last month when a comfortable winner on his return from a long layoff. He has gone up 12lb as a result but is open to any amount of progress after just three starts under Rules and, with Barry Geraghty in the plate, a bold follow up bid is expected. There's no stopping Solstice Star at present and he is 2lb well-in under a penalty for his wide-margin Lingfield success, so commands respect. Kayf Blanco and Ascendant arrive in good form, while it will be interesting to see which way Some Buckle goes in the betting on his debut for Paul Nicholls.

Plenty in with chances in a fascinating renewal. David Pipe has a good record in this race and can land the spoils for the third time courtesy of VIEUX LION ROUGE. The six-year-old has already surpassed his solid hurdles form in three outings over fences, staying on dourly for victory at Haydock last month, and he can make light of a 7lb rise in the weights. Sausalito Sunrise was far from convincing over his fences here last time but still had enough up his sleeve to score, so he isn't opposed lightly. Lots of familiar faces here and JOSIES ORDERS is fancied to follow up his C&D victory at last month's Open Meeting. Despite meeting a number of these rivals on much worse terms than he did four weeks ago, the seven-year-old won a lot easier than the bare margin suggests that day, having made a serious mistake at the Canal Turn fence and then being hampered by Sire Collonges slipping up on the turn for home, and he should know a lot more about the game now with that being his first spin around this track. The second and third that day, Any Currency and Bless The Wings, are likely to be on the premises again, while Love Rory, a stablemate to the selection, also merits consideration following a fantastic run over the banks and hedges at Punchestown.

Monbeg Gold impressively notched up a double at Exeter last month and he could well be up to defying a further 11lb hike in the ratings, but a chance is taken on handicap/seasonal debutant ONE TRACK MIND. He was only beaten six-and-a-half lengths in the Challow Hurdle last season, so clearly possesses a fair amount of ability, and barely had to come out of second gear when winning at Wetherby last time. He potentially looks a fair bit better than this mark of 139 and looks sure to mount a bold bid. Fingerontheswitch races off the same mark as when a decent fourth at the Open Meeting here and he merits consideration, while The Eaglehaslanded and Zeroeshadesofgrey add further spice to the race.

French recruit Politologue faces no easy task conceding 10lb to some useful opposition on his UK but he should still show up well, while North Hill Harvey only found Grade 2 bumper winner Barters Hill too good on his hurdling debut at Huntingdon last month and demands respect. Baden is another interesting player having been bought into the Nicky Henderson stable for 160,000 pounds shortly after his Bartlemy point-to-point success in May, but DRUMLEE SUNSET rates the one to beat. He was fancied when slipping at the start and unseating Richard Johnson in a Grade 2 contest here last month, and the form of his runner-up finish (also here) before that looks rock-solid with the winner since following up. He acts on this track, won't mind underfoot conditions and looks sure to run a big race.
