Pingshou is the obvious starting point following his win here last month, especially as he had a few of these behind him on that occasion. That said, he may struggle to give 10lb to COO STAR SIVOLA, whose last run in a Grade 1 in France can be written off. Prior to that he had finished second in a Grade 2 novice hurdle at Chepstow and he was a close third in the Fred Winter here in March on his final start of last season. Baden and Report To Base also have strong form claims, while Minotaur has yet to show his best over hurdles.

A big field but there appears to be plenty of deadwood and the three with the strongest claims look to be Arpege D'alene, VYTA DU ROC and Warrantor. The preference is for the Nicky Henderson representative following his respectable sixth in the Hennessy Gold Cup in November and he could take plenty of beating today if the first-time tongue-tie has a positive effect, especially from a 2lb lower mark today. Arpege D'alene makes his handicap debut over fences today from a rating that is 6lb lower than the mark off which he was a narrow second in the Pertemps Final last year and this test of stamina should bring about the best in him, while Warrantor has to be respected following his fine second here in November. Colin Tizzard had the winner of that race and his Sizing Codelco certainly has enough ability to go well if seeing out the trip today.

Clan Des Obeaux looked impressive in a Grade 2 at Newbury but that was in a contest that fell apart and he will need to confirm that success in a stronger race. The Nicky Henderson pair both have questions to answer with O O Seven, who disappointing at Doncaster after a really promising start here at Cheltenham in November, and Whisper, who has to back up his recent C&D effort in better company, so preference goes to BRIERY BELLE. Henry Daly's mare has looked very good so far over fences and, coming here having skipped an engagement on Thursday at Doncaster, she looks more than capable of landing a blow at this level.

This course and distance can play to his strengths and the versatile five-year-old is taken to account for L'Ami Serge and Cole Harden, who didn't look like naturals on their respective chasing bows. Camping Ground would prefer much softer ground, while Protek Des Flos might not be one to fully give up on yet for team Henderson.

A number of these look to have chances, so CAP SOLEIL receives what can only be a tentative vote. She justified strong market support when making a winning debut at Newbury and the sky is the limit for her at the moment. Daphne Du Clos won her only start in France and is sure to attract plenty of support first time out for Nicky Henderson, while Shearling won't give up on the hat-trick without a fight.
