CALIDUS MIRABILIS looks set to improve upon his fourth place in the first three-year-old maiden hurdle of the season at Roscommon last week, where he had several of these in behind. He was beaten a fair way there, but was only 4/1 for that assignment and you would think there would be more to come from him in this discipline, particularly on this better ground. He won a couple on the flat on all-weather surfaces. Little Brother landed an extended mile and a half handicap in Sligo on good ground at the start of July, so has the potential to go well in this new sphere. Cobb And Co has three placed efforts on the flat, and it will be interesting to see how he fares on jumping debut. Perry Owens and Sister Eliza represent stables who know a three-year-old hurdler when they see one, so should be monitored in the market.

It's terrific to see MALONE ROAD back in action. He carried a huge reputation after a couple of impressive wide-margin victories in bumpers at Down Royal and Punchestown in November 2018, which saw him put in as ante-post favourite for the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival in 2019. He hasn't been seen since, though, due to knee issues, so has a massive absence to overcome. It would be fair to say that he will come on for this comeback run but, if straight enough, should be more than capable of beating this opposition on hurdling debut. Doubtless, connections will be monitoring the warm weather as they wouldn't want quick ground for the former point-to-point winner. As Stivers and Robin Des Sivola are non runners, Malone Road's stablemate Uncle Henry (on first start for Elliott) has a shot at prize money, but has a similar lay-off to overcome. Get A Price was runner-up in two maiden hurdles last summer, and should strip fitter after an unplaced run in a beginners' chase at Kilbeggan in July. He could chase the selection home. Denis Hogan's Doyen Dancer can come on from a seasonal reappearance fifth at Gowran Park last month.

DERBY DE THAIX attempted to make all over an extended two miles one at this track last month, and could be worth a bet over this slightly shorter trip. He was collared on the run-in and dropped to fourth, but notably the runner-up has since gone in to strengthen the form. He is a long-standing maiden, but has form on decent ground. Yeat's Encore has put in two solid placed performances here and in Kilbeggan which has to bring her into contention, as very few of these are in good form. This is a lower grade than the one in which Acclamatio finished fourth in at Bellewstown in July. He ought to make his presence felt, and is a threat to all.

BLACKYELLOWRED was second in a couple of big-field handicap hurdles in the autumn and was back to form with another runner-up effort last time at Killarney. He looks to have a race of this nature in him. Romella had Old Town Road well behind in fifth when runner-up at Thurles last year, and was placed at the same track in March. She looks to be on a fair mark as well, although the tongue-tie worn on recent starts has been left off on this occasion. Old Town Road had run better when second at Thurles on his previous start, and having had a recent warm-up on the Flat, may not be a forlorn hope. Ilikehim had been in good form on the level before finishing fifth here last time. He looked to be going like a winner at one stage before the last, and the likely better ground may help his finishing effort this time.

He has no jumping experience but perhaps CABIN HILL can make a winning debut over hurdles after showing a nice bit of ability in bumpers. He won on debut at Wexford last summer and ran well in a winners' contest at Galway afterwards when finishing third to the useful Rocket Lad. The two mares at the bottom, Silk Worm and Will You Win, have been in reasonably good form and get plenty of weight from their rivals, while Siberian Road may improve for first-time headgear and Rachael Blackmore's handling. Drifting Back had a few decent runs on winter ground last year while Breakeven won two point-to-points for Denis Murphy early in the year and could be a decent recruit for Tom Mullins.

OLIVER HARDY showed enough when fifth at this track last time to suggest he can win a handicap of this nature. He has been pulled out a couple of times since because of soft ground, but can show improvement here upped in trip and on likely better ground. He showed decent middle-distance form in his own grade on the level for Paul Cole. There's very little between My Lovely Boy and Winsor Vixen on Cork form, but as an improving 5-year-old perhaps the former can fare best of the pair again. Ainmisfearr ran her best race to date at Bellewstown, while recent Wexford scorer Ballinaboola Steel is respected after finishing fourth at Downpatrick on Sunday.

Twice previously victorious here, BROGINE could bring up a hat-trick at the County Mayo venue now. She came off a 269 day break to finish runner-up in a Tipperary handicap chase behind Gunfire Reef on July 19th. It was on to Galway then for Seamus Braddish's charge and she again performed well for a silver medal. This time it was over the minor obstacles, and it was certainly no disgrace to find only the bang-in-form The Trigger her superior on that occasion. Another Ballinrobe winner, Famous Escape, is an interesting rival. She lacks the experience of her rivals but she could hardly have done it any better, in an albeit very ordinary mares maiden hurdle nineteen days back. Kilkishen found the going too quick at Gowran and he was pulled up lame. Hopefully he'll find sufficient ease in the surface here. Gordon Elliott's pair, Tiger Twenty Two and Gealach, are among the others to keep in mind.

Without the benefit of seeing how the market develops I'd be taking odds on the six newcomers in a match bet against the five with previous experience. Obviously Jamie Codd's presence on ELUSIVE GIGOLO, ahead of the other Gordon Elliott first-timer, Mars Harper, looks significant, and the 40,000 Euro three-year-old gets the nod. The legendary Bobby O'Ryan was the purchaser then, and his son Aidan owns Mars Harper. Hopefully the betting will be revealing. Jesse Evans and Bubbles In May are certainly interesting on paper too, whilst of those with form Fix The Bill and Mahlers Dollar should be there or thereabouts.
