A cracking novices' hurdle on paper and LASER LIGHT could shine brightest. A winner of his sole bumper start last season, he was even more impressive when beating three subsequent winners on his seasonal/hurdling debut at Chepstow last month and there should be a lot more to come from this exciting son of Kutub. Like the selection, Coastal Tiep, Elegant Escape and Laval Noir arrive with perfect records under Rules and all will be worth following as the season progresses, while Aloomomo sets the standard on chasing form but others are likely to be more ready for today's assignment. The Caspian Caviar Gold Cup at Cheltenham's December meeting is reportedly his first main aim of the season.

Sire De Grugy can never be discounted given his class but he does not appear to be very well handicapped any more and Vaniteux may now be the class act in this field. That said, he may need the run today and he can be taken on with COLD MARCH. The six-year-old won a similar race over C&D on his seasonal debut last year and he was far from disgraced when third to Dresden in this race 12 months ago from a mark of 150. On that evidence, and with the Venetia Williams yard hitting top form, he could prove very hard to beat. Quite By Chance has to be shortlisted following his C&D win last month, while Upsilon Bleu could go well at an each-way price.

GOING GOLD was third to last week's Cheltenham winner Poetic Rhythm at Chepstow last month and he appeared to be the second-best horse in that event but a lack of race fitness on his Rules debut cost him late on. With that run under his belt and likely improvement to come then the son of Gold Well could take all the beating this afternoon. Choix Des Armes has to be considered given his powerful connections, while Silver Kayf and Tales Of The Tweed also make plenty of appeal.
