Etoile Russe has run pretty well on the Flat since winning on his hurdling debut, but he will need to sharpen up his jumping if he is to follow-up here. Vale De Lobo won with a bit in hand at Chepstow and could prove a big danger, but the vote goes to FEDERSTAR. Milton Harris' gelding was placed in Listed company on the Flat in Germany before scoring on his hurdling bow at Stratford in July, and these underfoot conditions today will be much more to his liking.
An intriguing event in which a case can be made for four of the five runners. Baby Run and Exotic Dancer, who are making their chasing debuts, were both placed in Graded events over hurdles and take on the more experienced pair of Andreas and FEEL THE PRIDE. The former won on his last start, but has had his jumping problems, whereas the latter has a hat-trick of wins to her name over fences, is improving all the time and looks the safest proposition.
Nycteos will appreciate this drop back in trip but is better in muddy conditions and will benefit from further rain. CRATHORNE is a horse on the upgrade, and can complete a four-timer over hurdles, while ex-French import Predicament won on his only start over timber at Plumpton in December, and he too should go well if overcoming his lengthy absence.
Dictator was in contention until losing his action at Uttoxeter as he started out over timber earlier in the month and he may have a say. Nicky Henderson saddles HERAKLES for his first NH outing this afternoon and the German import, a smart sort on the level, is taken to make a winning start. Mr Lewin has had plenty of chances but is worth noting along with New Alco who made the frame on a few occasions in France.
Fair Prospect hasn't been seen on the track for almost two years but his previous efforts entitle him to plenty of respect here. ROSCHAL should have come on for his reappearance fourth at Market Rasen and is taken to land the spoils for a third win over fences. The Nomad has sound claims on last season's form but will benefit from the outing, while Jallastep is better than his latest Perth effort and could figure.
MARLBOROUGH SOUND, a winner and second on his two starts this year had his latest form franked when the winner followed up comfortably at Haydock earlier this week and he can take this. High Gear has been in good form for a while and he should make an impact while last time out winners Front Rank and Esters Boy aren't out of it. Melmount Star and Son Of Greek Myth are others to note.
