Expert Analysis
A race that often punches above its weight as an age-restricted Group 2, though less so this year with the field finishing quite well bunched. The pace was somewhat uneven, with the finishing speed a bit above par at around 106%, but it was solid enough to produce a timefigure that backs up the form assessment of this as a smart effort by the winner and for that horse to come from the rear. The runners came towards the centre in the home straight.
YIBIR (113 here and previously) is a different proposition since being gelded and ran at least as well as he ever has settling better and ridden with more restraint than at Goodwood the time before, held up in rear but in touch, closing 2f out and getting a gap to lead 1f later, running on well for stronger pressure. There could be better to come from him yet, though he is no longer eligible for the St Leger.
THE MEDITERRANEAN (111 here, 109 previously) improved a little on his fourth to Hurricane Lane in France under another attacking ride, setting a slightly uneven but mostly sound pace, 4 to 5 lengths clear at halfway and continuing to respond when it looked as if he might be swallowed up by the pack, headed 1f out and keeping on, more is likely to be needed to place in the St Leger, but a little more rather than a lot.
YOUTH SPIRIT (110 here and previously) has run to about the same level in all starts since his reappearance bar at Epsom, travelling OK in mid-field, having every chance over 1f out but unable to quicken. He should stay 14f.
SIR LUCAN (110 here, 109 previously) ran creditably again, and with no excuses this time having been set plenty to do at Goodwood, coming from behind (jumped path early) but there in sufficient time but able only to keep on.
SCOPE (109 here, 95 previously) ran easily his best race on what was just his fourth start, appearing good value for it, close up and having every chance 2f out, keeping on again at the death. He should stay 14f.
HIGH DEFINITION (100 here, 107 previously) ran out of excuses here, if not previously, racing in third early but rousted along before most and tapped for toe over 3f out, switched but fading rather than staying on. He was sweating beforehand and seems not to be right at present.
THIRD REALM (100 here, 108 previously) continues to dine out on being the last horse to beat Adayar, but has done nothing to compare with that since, held up but in touch here, making an effort approaching 3f out but only the briefest of headway.KEMARI (98 here, 107 previously) showed up well for a long way but ultimately went as if not right, mid-field and coming through to have a chance 2f out but emptying quickly soon after.
