Expert Analysis
A race won by Fury Road in 2019 and Penhill in 2016 (last year’s did not take place), but this is more ordinary form by Grade 2 Novice Hurdle standards, the winner a likeable type nonetheless. Conditions were testing and the pace sound enough to make this a thorough enough examination of stamina.
ERIC BLOODAXE (h139 here and previously) is going the right way and should continue to show up when stamina is at a premium, though, as much as anything, his win paid a further compliment to Ginto (now rated h151), who had beaten him handsomely in a similar race at Navan the time before. He raced mostly in mid-field, led approaching 2 out and found plenty to put the race to bed when jumping the last.
FREEDOM TO DREAM (h132 here, 119+ previously) can be credited with a borderline useful effort for a novice, tracking the pace until going on after 3 out (went as short as 11/8 in running) but one paced late on.
ANGELS DAWN (h124 here, 129 previously) ran respectably, waited with but getting there in plenty of time after 3 out, one paced after.
EYE VAN (h129 here, 116 previously) outran his odds and looked like doing even better for a long way (traded at around evens in running at one stage), coming from the rear to track the leaders going well approaching 2 out but already emptying when getting the last wrong.
BRAMPTON BELLE (h114 here and previously)
HUMBLE GLORY (h99 here, 123 previously)
ROBYNDEGLORY (h84+ here, 117 previously) showed up well until going to 2 out and was eased when held, better than the result.
GLORIOUS GALWAY (h0 here, ? previously)
BARNACULLIA (h0 here, 132 previously) might not have stayed, eased when held.
DEDANANN (h0 here, 121 previously)
