Expert Analysis
This looked just a shade under strength beforehand, not helped in the event by Shadow Of Light’s tame showing, but Marvelman really stamped his authority on matters and looks very smart indeed. They raced down the centre (but with Ten Bob Tony and East Hampton slightly detached nearer to the stand side) and the pace set by Quinault was soon a good one, with the winner’s final 2f of 24.29s producing a near-to-par 99.3% finishing speed.
MARVELMAN (117 here, 113 previously) probably achieved more than I originally gave him credit for when 3rd to More Thunder at Newbury, but this looks better still as he gave a handsome beating to some very useful rivals. He was always close up, travelling strongly from the get-go, led and quickened 2f out and was soon on top, kept up to his work and running on well. He has plenty of speed and looks worth trying at a stiff 6f again some time, though the short-of-the-full-1400m Foret at ParisLongchamp on Arc weekend would also be an obvious target.
KING’S GAMBLE (105 here, 106 previously) is operating below the peak of last year, but only just, and this was a respectable effort in first-time blinkers, especially as 7f seemed sharp enough for him on the day, close up but tapped for toe mid-race then staying on.
AUDIENCE (105 here, 104 previously) is best rated on his recent form, this a creditable effort in that context, but he again looked less than keen for a while until keeping on late, ridden a bit further back than usual here also.
ZOUM ZOUM (101 here, 105 previously) was close to form, running on from a bit off the pace until flattening out a bit near the end at a trip that is probably a maximum for him.
QUINAULT (96 here, 109 previously) led until 2f out, travelling strongly before finding little, and below form again.
DEVIL’S POINT (90 here, 104 previously) had won the German 2000 Guineas last year but not been seen in 433 days, shaping with some promise in the circumstances in making brief headway mid-race.

SHADOW OF LIGHT (75 here, 117 previously) ran poorly for no obvious reason, as he had at Royal Ascot, and seemingly cannot be trusted implicitly right now.
