Expert Analysis
A competitive and well-run Grade 2, the novice mares completing the course in a time 1.7 seconds faster than the more experienced chasers in the later Hilly Way. The form appeals as solid, sizable gaps between the first three home though the second would have finished closer but of a mistake at the last.
KALA CONTI coped well with a drop in distance having won her beginners chase over further last time and looks a better chaser than hurdler despite being on the small side. She was ridden handy and came clear with the runner-up in the straight, again showing a willing attitude to pull away late.
KARGESE was the best of these over hurdles and made a promising start over fences, her jumping fine until she got tired in the straight. She needed her first run last season, and improvement is anticipated next time.
JALILA MORIVIERE found this trip too sharp. She was outpaced after three and then got hampered by a faller two out before keeping on late in the manner of one that wants further.
BREAK MY SOUL had impressed on chase debut but had no excuses and was disappointing. She travelled well to the turn in but was soon left behind.
KILBARRY SAINT set out to lead but was soon passed and isn’t up to this grade.
COTTESLOE SUNSHINE is more of a decent ground mare, her three wins on yielding or faster, and likely won’t be at her best until the ground improves.
TAHAA was sent off a big price and jumped erratically but would have been third if not for falling two out. This was a good effort on just her second career run and there is ability there if it can be harnessed.
