Expert Analysis
A pretty strong Diamond Jubilee despite Starman (now rated 116) being withdrawn late on Friday due to the rain-softened ground, and the form has a solid look to it, most of the principals running to, or close to, form in a race run at an even pace and with a 98% finishing speed (just slower than par), though it has to be said that the winner’s time is not especially good compared to that of Rohaan in the Wokingham 40 minutes later, 0.22s (about a length and a half quicker) than that one but while carrying 5 lb less plus weight-for-age. Those drawn 1 to 7 stayed in the centre, while 8 plus raced nearer the stand side, though there appeared to be little in it.
DREAM OF DREAMS (120 here, 122 previously) is as good an active sprinter as any in Britain and Ireland on his day, and that day is occurring more often than not of late, making up for two narrow defeats in this race here with a professional display, soon steadied going well and running on steadily despite edging left to lead in the final 1f. He ran poorly in the 2019 July Cup at Newmarket, though that was the last time he ran on ground firmer than good.
GLEN SHIEL (117 here and previously) duly benefited from his outing at the Curragh to run as well as he ever has, leading in the centre but mostly second overall, challenging from over 1f out but not quite able to match the winner’s late surge. All his recent runs have been on ground softer than good or all-weather.
ART POWER (115 here and previously) ran creditably and might have gone closer still another day, having to do all the running on his own towards the stand side, just about leading for much of the race but headed in the final 1f.
HAPPY POWER (112 here, 113 previously) was back to form, showing himself to be as effective at a stiff 6f as 7f, though unable to quicken late on having tracked the pace.
GARRUS (110 here, 109 previously) ran well but has his work cut out at the highest level, held up to get a 6f as stiff as this and keeping on.
SONAIYLA (104 here, 107 previously) was close to form, slightly checked at the start but tracking the pace until one paced late on.
NAHAARR (105 here, 115 previously) could not repeat the form of his second to Starman at York, proven on ground this soft but never able to get into it nearer the stand side.
VENTURA REBEL (104 here, 108 previously) is a Group 3 winner but not up to this level, never on terms nearer to the stand side.
ROYAL COMMANDO (96 here, 109 previously) was never on terms after a near-3-month absence.
SUMMERGHAND (83 here, 109 previously) usually gives his running but that was not the case here.
FINAL SONG (69 here, 107 previously) may have found the ground too soft.
NAMOS (58 here, 108 previously) had returned to form at Longchamp the time before but ran poorly here.
