Verdict

The well bred former Godolphin gelding DESERT COMMANDER cleared away from his rivals in great style on his return from a lengthy absence last time and despite an 11lb rise in the weights, could still be ahead of the handicapper judged by the way he won that day. He is still totally unexposed and looks to be quite progressive. Zowington has to be given place claims after winning first time out, along with Swinbrook, but the latter may be better over 6f and will find this tougher than last time.

Verdict

Portrayal has only had the one run for Godolphin, which came when successful in a listed race at Newmarket. He had proved himself a top performer as a juvenile in France and is also suited by cut in the ground. However, with Sir Michael Stoute's horses in such great form, the vote goes the way of RED BLOOM. This former fillies' mile winner has proved to be of the highest calibre on several occasions, won't be inconvenienced by underfoot conditions and has also got winning course form. Mango Mischief is best of the remainder.

Verdict

Some potentially top-class colts compete and Septimus, a Group 2 winner as a juvenile is going to prove popular for the O'Brien/Fallon combination. Having proved himself at the top level already, he should have come on for his seasonal debut when not beaten far in France. A chance is taken on LENINGRAD though for Michael Bell. He has only had one start in a maiden but couldn't have been more impressive and looks to have a bright future. Having entries in all the top races suggests how well regarded he is. Best Alibi can be given claims as well.

Verdict

Babodana hasn't won for some time but ran very well when coming second in a Group 2 at Sandown last time and acts best with some give in the ground. DABBERS RIDGE looks hugely progressive for the Barry Hills yard, however, and won emphatically last time at Chester by 5l. He only has to deal with a 3lb penalty for that effort, which is unlikely to prove much of a burden and is clearly in good heart as it was only last week that this course winner was victorious. Stronghold is also improving but has to give weight all-round.

Verdict

Aidan O'Brien started ABRAHAM LINCOLN off in a listed race earlier this month and this son of Danehill is bred to make a speedy 2yo. He showed signs of greenness on that debut being behind before staying on, and is sure to be all the better now. Connections have often targeted this race with a good sort and took it last year with one with a similar profile. Barry Hills and Mark Johnston have good records here and are capable of readying one for their first outing so Silkie Smooth and Autograph Hunter are respected.

Verdict

A couple of these were behind VILLAGO at Pontefract recently and, with the extreme trip being of no issue, he has a definite advantage over the majority of the field. He won over even further last time so is going to see the trip out well and the 4lb rise is unlikely to see the form reversed. John Dunlop has a fantastic record at the track and his Stoop To Conquer could be a big danger after being placed in better company last time off the same mark. All Star, who has been busy over hurdles, is next best.
