The Groove would have leading claims if transferring his smart Flat form to hurdles, but hasn't jumped timber in public since June 2017 and is yet to finish in the top three in this discipline. Bumble Bay has performed well over C&D the last twice and should remain competitive off 1lb higher, with Never A Word another consistent performer to consider.

QUEEN'S MAGIC showed plenty of encouraging signs on her two outings over hurdles during the summer, building on what was two fantastic bumper performances beforehand, and everything looks positive for Neil Mulholland's mare as she reappears following a break. She had Kimberley Point along way behind her in one of those bumper outings at Cheltenham, but that rival improved for jumping hurdles when second at Southwell last time and should be able to finish closer here. Maebh ended last season finishing down the field in the Grade 2 Aintree bumper for mares, but showed a likeable attitude in her outings before that and a race like this is well within her capabilities, while point-to-point winner Executive Capilano is an interesting recruit and cost 40,000 pounds at the sales for a team that have enjoyed success here this season.

Highway Girl hinted at being useful in two bumper outings last term and Charlie Longsdon's mare could prove the main opposition on her hurdles bow, while Noble Warrior is an interesting recruit from the pointing field.

Nicky Henderson won this last season with River Wylde and stablemate CLAIMANTAKINFORGAN looks to repeat that fete and make a bright start to life over the larger obstacles, in a race with an esteemed role of honour, named after a popular Grade 1 performer. The 2017 Champion Bumper third returned to Prestbury Park to finish a respectable fifth in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle last season and, having picked up a Grade 2 novice prize along the way, as well as placing in a Scottish Champion Hurdle, hopes are high he could prove a more than handy steeplechaser. Chesterfield boasts some smart form in some hot handicaps and should make sure this is no penalty kick for the Seven Barrows inmate. He was only half-a-length behind his main rival at Ayr in the spring and, having backed that up with a narrow defeat in the Swinton Hurdle, he is more than capable of taking a hand in decent chases this term. Sonnetist completes the trio of competitors and he appears to need a lot of luck on his NH debut.

She was last seen finishing third to the ill-fated Baden at Ludlow in May for Paul Nicholls and her new trainer is more than capable of freshening up his new recruits. Dawnieriver could benefit from a wind operation, while Indian Native looks best of the remainder.

TROUBLED SOUL ran her best race for a while when fourth at Chepstow last month, getting in to contention before ultimately suggesting the trip stretched her.
