Ilewin Geez arguably sets the standard having already won twice this season but the 14lb penalty he has to carry makes him vulnerable today. With that in mind, the preference is for INFORMATEUR, who bumped into an above-average rival when finishing second at Hexham last month and he appears to have plenty in his favour today. Mance Rayder would have a chance based on his best form but he was not the most predictable of performers when trained by Philip Hobbs.

HANDY HOLLOW shaped encouragingly over 2m3f at Kelso last time and should be suited by this even greater test of stamina. A mark of 107 looks to be workable for the five-year-old and he can see off Moorlands Mist, who won at Hexham on his reappearance after ending last season with three failed attempts to complete, and Broadway Belle, who has been absent since her own Hexham success in June.

BROADWAY BELLE's consistency at this level is a major selling point, and this previous C&D scorer is taken to pick up where she left off this summer. Handy Hollow is second choice, though You're So Right needs monitoring in the betting starting out for Keith Dalgleish.

Chosen Flame got off the mark between the flags when last seen in May before joining Rose Dobbin and warrants a market check, although the form of that success doesn't appear to have worked out so far. Dark Ruler was rated 91 at his pomp on the Flat, while Theatre Legend ran in a Grade 2 bumper at Aintree last term and is also respected. However, it could be worth sticking with the unbeaten I'M TO BLAME, who did it well in two bumpers last winter and is bred to make up into a nice hurdling type for his powerful connections.
