Marco Botti won this race three years ago with Grey Mirage and looks to have another strong contender in YEENAAN this time around. Successful on bottomless ground on his handicap debut at Windsor last term, he's offered strong hints his stamina will extend to this stiff mile, and his comeback third at Chelmsford, when denied a clear run when attempting to challenge from off the pace, also looks promising. Spring Offensive stayed the distance well on his first attempt at Musselburgh (second) and holds Tom Hark (fourth) on that run. Any money for Charlie Hills' returning Purple Rock, who steps up from 7f on his handicap bow, would also be interesting.
SPRING OFFENSIVE took another step forward when second on his return in a valuable 1m handicap at Musselburgh, and can go one place better with the prospect of even more improvement to come. Tom Hark posted a good effort himself when fourth in the same race and is feared off the same mark. Ready Chelmsford winner Shaakis is also respected.

Tullius is as game as they come and battled on bravely to score in Listed company on his seasonal return at Doncaster. His efforts in the Lockinge and Ascot last season suggest he's capable of holding his own at the top level over a mile. While he commands respect with match fitness on his side, he may be vulnerable over this longer trip. Sir Michael Stoute's runners generally come on for their first run of the season, though Arab Spring made a winning return in Pattern company at Newbury last weekend and it is hoped his CANNOCK CHASE can follow suit. His victory in the Tercentenary Stakes last summer underlined his effectiveness over a stiff 1m2f on fast ground and the form of that race has been boosted bv the third, Postponed, winning twice after being stepped up in trip. The Luca Cumani-trained rival reopposes here, though reverting to 1m2f again he may be done for tactical speed by the selection. Western Hymn landed the Classic Trial on this card 12 months ago but he arrives without a recent run to his name this time around.
Sir Michael Stoute has won this a record 7 times and his highly-progressive CANNOCK CHASE looks another potential winner for the Newmarket handler. Postponed was most impressive in the Great Voltigeur but 12f may prove to be his optimum trip, while very smart-miler Tullius has his stamina to prove.

HERE COMES WHEN has a history of going well fresh and bolted up by five lengths on his seasonal return at Chester last season. That win came at handicap level, though he landed back-to-back Group 2 events at Baden-Baden and Newmarket on his final starts of 2014 and looks capable of holding his own amongst stronger opposition this time around. Custom Cut enjoyed an outstanding debut season for David O'Meara, winning five times, including a Group 2 contest over today's distance at Newmarket. He looks a tactical danger to all from the front, though he did take a few runs before he hit full stride last season. Breton Rock was third behind the selection over 7f at HQ last time and will be hopeful of narrowing the gap over this longer trip, while Bow Creek, a dual Group 2 winner over a mile, could will relish conditions and is entitled to improve for the fitting of first-time cheekpieces on his seasonal return.
SHIFTING POWER can boast some very strong Group 1 form from last year and has the added advantage of receiving weight from most of his main rivals, so can provide the Hannon team with a record eighth win in this event. Custom Cut should be a tough nut to crack, while any rain would increase the chances of Breton Rock and Here Comes When.

COMMEMORATIVE sets a clear form standard on his Group 3 victory in the Autumn Stakes at Newmarket last term. He was also far from disgraced when seventh, but beaten by under three lengths, in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, so he's one to monitor closely in the betting now stepped up beyond 1m for the first time on his seasonal return. Ballydoyle representative Cape Clear Island knuckled down well to score on his seasonal bow over this trip at HQ, an effort which wants marking up considering several of his higher-profile stablemates have failed to run to market expectations on their own reappearances. He has a bit to find with the selection on official figures, but he wouldn't have been sent over the Irish Sea if he wasn't considered capable of improving on his current rating of 89 and he's very much one to consider. Snoano signed off last season with a moderate effort in the Racing Post Trophy but could be capable of better at three.

THAHAB and Waady may well be the pair to focus on, narrow preference in favour of the former, with the promise of more to come on the back of his Chelmsford reappearance romp earlier this month. MOONLIGHT SONATA took a forward step when stepped up to 1m at Newmarket last time, going down by just a nose. It is possible there is further improvement in the pipeline now she is tackling this longer trip. Brandybend is entitled to build on his debut second at Chelmsford but the main dangers are probably lurking amongst the newcomers and Leading Design and Markabah, who fall into the latter category, are worth monitoring closely in the betting.

STRAVAGANTE showed the benefit of having a run under his belt when striking second time out over 1m at Newcastle last term. He's bred to improve for this longer distance and gets the vote now upped in trip on his seasonal return/handicap bow. Jack Hobbs made a winning debut over the extended 1m on debut at Wolverhampton and could improve for this stiffer test. Others to consider in a trappy heat include recent winners Dartmouth and Putting Green - two others moving into handicaps for the first time.
