Devon Flame was dropped into a claimer last time at Windsor and it had the desired effect because he ran out a game winner. He has his first run for a new trainer here and even though he has a very capable pilot on board, it will be a good performance to win off this handicap mark. Conjuror is running more consistently since being fitted with a tongue tie and it is not difficult to see him being involved. NIVERNAIS is not the easiest to predict but this course and distance winner is more than capable of landing this under Emily Jones.
Richard Hannon runs two here and both won Windsor maidens recently. Nivelle won over 5f and she would probably have to improve to win this as it did not look the strongest heat on that occasion. CHARLIE TOKYO won over a furlong further and a length behind him in second that day was Mull Of Dubai, with the penalty for that success the tables should be turned but the winner won a shade cosily and is quite well regarded and also holds an entry in the Super Sprint at Newbury. Grantley Adams is improving with every run and looks sure to be involved. Peter Chapple-Hyam is no stranger to introducing winning juveniles so any market support for his Barathea Colt Beau Nash would be significant.
This has the look of an informative maiden. There are plenty of newcomers who come from powerful yards with the most interesting possibly being Mr Floodlight who was retained by the vendor at the sales for quite a bit of money; as ever in this sort of race, a look at the market will be vital. Opera Cape and Genre both made their debuts in a fair maiden over C&D recently and they ran with promise and were not unduly knocked about; they look primed to run big races. LIGHT METER ran an eye-catching race on his debut at Newbury and given that horses from this stable tend to improve for their first run, he could be very interesting.
Goodwood Spirit will find things tougher here with a 5lb rise for his game success at Newbury but should still be right in the thick of things as this is not the strongest heat. Dry Ice ran a cracker at Leicester on his first run for eight months when only going down by a length, if that race has not left any ill effects he is bound to be involved. CHAPTER has been in good heart since running on fast ground and he should make a bold bid from the front. Celtic Spa is slowly recapturing her useful juvenile form and can make her presence felt with a featherweight.
Aoninch deserves a change of luck after two good efforts over this course recently. Without a win since 2003 she rarely runs a bad race but is always vulnerable to an improver. She might have met one here in the shape of ZAMBOOZLE who stuck on in game fashion to win a handicap over a furlong shorter at Newbury last time. This step up in trip will hold no fears and as long as they go a good gallop, which his stable companion Mersey Sound should help set, he has the look of a horse who can defy his 6lb rise in the weights. Desert Island Disc has won twice around here and is always feared at this level.
Top weight TESARY can prove good enough to give weight all around in a tricky finale. She has run well all season and might have more to come over this trip. She tried it for the first time at Doncaster last time when going down narrowly to Tax Free, and with the winner franking the form by landing a hot handicap at Newmarket this week, she holds great claims. Abide was finally rewarded for a string of consistent efforts when getting off the mark last time and should be up to holding her own in handicap company. Jalissa would be given a chance if you could forgive her for a mulish display last time at Newmarket.
