NETMINDER didn't have to improve much on the form he showed when second at Kelso to land the odds at Ayr last month but he made a big impression that day and looks a bright prospect for the future. Bar De Ligne has progressed with every outing and also shaped like a decent chaser in the making when scoring by seven lengths at Market Rasen. He looks the main threat to the selection, but Fill The Power, Rival D'estruval and Dark Glacier also command respect.
A cracking novice hurdle to kick off the card. Bar de Ligne will be suited by the extra demands on stamina following his Market Rasen win last month, but preference is for Netminder, who was no less impressive when stringing out the opposition at Ayr last time and also looks to have a bright future. Dark Glacier and Rival d'Estruval are others that shouldn't be too far away.

James Ewart has his string in good shape and although clearly a little fragile, the lightly-raced 10-year-old BEST LOVER is fancied to return to winning ways. He unseated Brian Hughes at Ayr earlier in the month but had won well on his return from a layoff at Wetherby in November and is well worth another chance off his revised rating. Categorical knows what's required over this C&D and isn't handicapped out of matters, while Lord Villez could run well at more rewarding odds.
Gansey had something up his sleeve when beating Categorical in this race last year and is likely to have a big say in matters if in the same form after a break this time round, but Mr Syntax proved he could go well fresh when taking another step forward over fences on his reappearance in November and will take some stopping.

SPIEKEROOG wasn't anything out of the ordinary on the Flat but he has improved with every outing over hurdles and looks to be starting handicap life on a very attractive mark having beaten subsequent scorer Bourne in a novice event over this C&D at the start of the month. This is a really competitive heat, however, with Scottish County Hurdle scorer Stormy Weather heading the dangers, despite an 8lb hike in the weights. Palawi and Eurohunter are also entitled to be thereabouts.
A competitive event in which there should be a good pace on. Spiekeroog is progressing well and his form with Vulcanite and Bourne reads particularly well now, so he is taken to emerge on top. Stormy Weather and Lady Bluesky are also going the right way and look next best.

EYRE SQUARE disappointed favourite-backers over 3m here last month but that first outing since winning the Borders National at Kelso at the start of December (Mister Marker and Captain Americo back in third and fourth respectively) was entitled to be needed and he looks to have plenty in his favour today. Keith Reveley's charge handles any ground, stays all day and could still be open to improvement. Irish challenger Portrait King produced a career best to land a decent prize at Punchestown earlier in the month and although he has taken a hike in the weights, he's only had five starts over fences.
Portrait King has improved for the step up to marathon trips and he can follow up his Punchestown success in this famous race. Mister Marker and Morgan Be are both proven stayers and can fill the frame.

Smart Flat recruit AGENT ARCHIE made no mistake on his first start over obstacles at Ludlow in November and although not seen since, it would be no surprise to see Donald McCain's charge, who holds an entry in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham, return to action with a good weight-carrying performance today. Victor Hewgo could be worth noting but the principle threat is likely to be posed by hurdling newcomer Reve De Nuit, who won four times on the Flat up to 1m2f and could go a long way in this sphere if taking to jumps.
Agent Archie could hardly have created a more favourable impression on hurdling debut at Ludlow in November and should follow up, though fellow useful Flat performer Reve de Nuit would clearly be capable of giving him something to think about if he takes to hurdling.

It should pay to focus on the top two on the card, with HELPSTON narrowly preferred to Frascati Park. The latter is 3lb superior on official figures and arrives on the back of a taking defeat of Alfie Spinner at Warwick but the selection drops in class after unseating in the Grade 2 Reynoldstown at Ascot and had previously found only According To Pete too good in the Rowland Meyrick at Wetherby on Boxing Day. Lackamon has a 12-length C&D win to his name this term but is now very much on a recovery mission after pulling up twice since.

KING OF THE WOLDS consigned his moderate Haydock debut run firmly to the past with a C&D victory at the start of the month and that win was all the more meritorious considering he was keen enough through the early stages. If learning to settle better this time, Malcolm Jefferson's Presenting gelding could be up to conceding weight all round. Four-year-old Big Water already has two bumper wins to his name and represents an obvious threat, while Scarlet Fire and Stagecoach Jasper are entitled to improve on their encouraging debut efforts.
The 2 previous winners could have this between them, with Big Water fancied to make it 3 out of 3 at the expense of King of The Wolds. Stagecoach Jasper made a promising start at Catterick and should also be in the mix again.
