Amberley Heights appeals on breeding as she's a half-sister to six winners and represents a trainer more than capable of readying a newcomer. Another debutant to note is Elegant In Silk, who changed hands for 50,000gns in April and is a half-sister to several international winners. With the benefit of racecourse experience to her name, however, IT'S TABOO looks the safest option. Mark Usher's representative is going the right way judging by her recent Windsor third and rates the one to beat on that effort.
It's Taboo sets a fair standard but Richard Hannon often runs some his nicer 2-y-os here and Amberley Heights is taken to make a winning debut. Jathabah should also be capable of getting involved with her debut behind her.

ONE WORD MORE ran a debut full of promise over C&D last month, staying on well in the closing stages for second and ultimately hinting he'd be worth keeping onside next time out with the benefit of that experience under his belt. Third in the same race, Ayaar could emerge as the principal threat as he's since gone on to finish a creditable fourth in a 6f Curragh Group 3 and he is well worth a return to this longer distance. Roger Charlton's debutant Pythagorean appears the best angle in for those looking to side with a newcomer.
One Word More looks a danger but Ayaar really should be up to winning a maiden judged on his recent fourth in a Curragh Group 2 and gets the verdict. Hannon newcomer Montiridge looks interesting, while Monsieur Rieussec shaped nicely on his debut here and should have more to give.

Secret Quest demonstrated an ability to handle soft ground when scoring on debut at Nottingham and is a potential improver now upped in trip for her second start in handicap company. Anya is another stepped up in trip who is open to improvement around middle distances, but with stronger staying credentials than the aforementioned pair, VARNISH is preferred. The selection went close in second over track and trip latest (Little Dutch Girl back in third) and a subsequent 3lb rise is unlikely to prevent her mounting another bold bid.
A competitive handicap. Varnish and Little Dutch Girl bring closely matched C&D form to the table and, given the likely conditions, should both have more to offer having their stamina tested further. However, similar sentiments also apply to the unexposed Secret Quest, and she is fancied to get her head in front.

Euxton Hall is respected on the back of his conditions victory at Pontefract over this trip earlier in the month and is entitled to be thereabouts, but of more interest is MASTER OF WAR, whose ninth-placed finish in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot probably represents the strongest piece of form on offer in the race. Now dropped back to Listed level, Richard Hannon's representative rates the one to beat. His stablemate Rhamnus impressed when landing a Sandown maiden with ease last time and is also high on the shortlist.
Rhamnus looked a colt of real potential when scoring in the mud at Sandown last time and can take the step up in class in his stride. Richard Fahey's Euxton Hall could be the one to chase him home.

WHITECREST acquitted herself reasonably well when fifth over track and trip last month and backed that effort up with a solid effort in defeat at Brighton ten days ago. John Spearing's charge is racing off the same mark here and looks the safest option given her ability to handle cut. Just For Mary thrives in soft ground and merits shortlist inclusion, along with Superior Edge, who looked on the way back to form when runner-up at Chepstow last time and has the assistance of Richard Hughes in the saddle this afternoon.
Most of these are well exposed and it might just be worth taking a chance on 3-y-o handicap debutante Dream Whisperer on her return to action. Superior Edge and Whitecrest are a couple of others for the shortlist.

A mark of 94 means he's possibly in the grip of the assessor, however, and it might be worth siding with ALDWICK BAY, who scored over this trip on soft ground at Windsor in May and, 5lb higher now, remains on an exploitable rating.
