LAZARE DE STAR won nicely during Christmas and might prove to be a little better than a 126 rating. Runner-up in a point-to-point, he chased home a useful type on his hurdling debut before scoring at Leopardstown. Dropping back down in distance isn't ideal, but he seems ground-versatile and is open to further progression. Flat-bred Zeus Power has yet to race on ground this testing, but scored very easily at Thurles last month. He too is open to further improvement and should figure prominently. Fierce Handay has been running well in handicaps, while Bon Viveur steps up from his Tramore success.
A strong race but it was hard not to be impressed with LAZARE DE STAR's victory over the festive period and a repeat of that should be enough here. The stiff track will suit down in trip and he's already proven himself effective on testing ground unlike his main rival Zeus Power. Joseph O Brien's gelding probably didn't beat all that much last time but he showed a good turn of foot to quickened clear appreciating the drop back to 2m. If he handles the easier surface he can provide the main threat ahead of the more experienced Fierce Handay. That rival has been progressing in handicaps and was a touch unlucky last time after making a race ending error at a key stage.

COURT COMPLIANCE was beaten at odds-on during Christmas, but is an able stayer who should be suited by going back up in distance. SON OF ANARCHY is 10lb higher than when successful in November, but has further room for progression. He missed a year following a debut point-to-point success and while it then took seven runs to score over hurdles, he had shaped with promise on more than one occasion and landed an on-course gamble when scoring at Punchestown. The Nagger Reidy narrowly defeated Hgranca De Thaix at Leopardstown during Christmas, while others with good recent handicap form are Balko D'ange, Killaney King and I A Connect.
SON OF ANARCHY was untested on his handicap debut and should be able to defy a 10lb rise. The stiff track will suit at the trip and he's proven on testing ground so he can defeat Hgranca De Thaix who was a touch unlucky in a hot handicap last time after conceding first run. He should appreciate this stiff track and is thrown in on his chase form so looks an obvious danger. Perhaps the most interesting contender is Catch The Beast who shaped well at a similar track on his reappearance. He was behind The Nagger Reidy who has franked the form that day but with that run behind him he is expected to reverse the form on these revised terms. Prior to his injury lay off he was thought well enough of to contest a Grade 3 and he looks on a generous mark based on that form.

SHELLRUNFORBRIGGS showed progression to break through and looks to be ahead of the handicapper with an initial rating of 102. Out of a half-sister to three winners, she showed some promise at Fairyhouse before scoring at Naas. That maiden hurdle was for previously unplaced horses but having won easily, she should continue to improve. Teds Corner has been a beaten favourite on each of his last three starts but should again compete, while Johnny Cakes has reasonable recent form but has won just once from 20 starts.
The consistent but frustrating TEDS CORNER can shed his maiden tag here. His latest placed effort is worth marking up as he was left with too much to do after meeting trouble and he should appreciate this stiff finish. If getting a decent pace to aim at he can defeat Shellrunforbriggs who was a cosy maiden winner at a similar track last time. She's open to plenty of improvement now handicapping and is proven on the testing ground. The most intriguing opponent is Teescomponentsyess who has looked in need of the runs this term but has now dropped back to his last winning mark. If he retains his ability he could play a part in the finish.

SLADE STEEL was a smart novice over hurdles, winning the Supreme at the 2024 Cheltenham Festival, and should gain a belated first success over fences. The Henry de Bromhead-trained gelding was placed twice last term and was absent for a year until again filling the runner-up spot behind Predators Gold over the extended 2m4f here last month, with Wingmen 10 lengths back in third. Spread Boss Ted was a useful stayer over hurdles but has obviously had training issues, while Patter Merchant's second to Flicker Of Hope at Fairyhouse has been advertised since.
SLADE STEEL was a Grade 1 winner over hurdles and though he's yet to match that over fences he has been steadily progressing in this sphere. He is yet to prove his stamina for 3m but he was travelling powerfully when he was brought down last time and he may have won that day. He is the class angle in the race so gets the verdict ahead of Spread Boss Ted who has had plenty of issues but it is notable that his top yard persists. He ran well fresh last year and is open to improvement now chasing over staying trips. Wingmen has proven consistent over fences and his debut form has been franked at the top level so he also rates a danger. He has however shown he lacks battling qualities so is a risk.

MADE IN THE WOODS won over a similar trip at Limerick for Norman Lee and again made a bold bid from the front when beaten a neck by Maciver at the same venue last March. He only weakened in the Clonmel straight over hurdles on his first start for Mick Winters and, with the benefit of that outing, should give a good account. Plain Or Battered stays well and was placed behind A Great Buzz in a similar Punchestown event on his penultimate start. Brown Boots has indicated some ability in handicap hurdles, including when staying on into fifth over 2m4f at Clonmel last week, and could be suited by the step up in trip as he switches to fences.
Recent hurdles winner MILANAWAY is unexposed in this sphere and looks well treated on her debut midfield effort. Now tackling handicaps she is open to progress with the testing ground and step back up in trip in her favour. She can defeat chase debutant Brown Boots who looked ready for this step up in trip when midfield over 2 1/2m over hurdles last time. Veteran Smackwater Jack is another who will appreciate this stiffer test and while he may not be the force of old he proved he retained some of his ability with a hurdles win last year. He races off a dangerous mark judged on his old UK form and should be involved at the finish.

THE IRISH AVATAR was second on his only point-to-point start for Colin Bowe at Dromahane last April and that race has thrown up a number of winners. The Poet's Word gelding, out of a Grade 2 winner, was subsequently snapped up for 200,000 pounds to join the champion trainer. Low Kick didn't enjoy the clearest of passages when placed in an Aintree bumper for Jack Teal last spring and was purchased by for 170,000 pounds shortly afterwards. Liskeveen hails from a yard that has won eight bumpers in the past six months, and the Crystal Ocean gelding is a half-brother to three winners.
The form standard is set by LOW KICK who placed on debut last year in the UK despite a troubled passage. He has joined a top stable on these shores and is open to plenty of improvement here if handling the testing ground so is a strong selection. The biggest threats may come from a pair of debutants in The Irish Avatar and Liskeveen. The former shaped with promise in points and has joined a top yard while the latter represents a yard which can get first time out winners in both codes.
