MUNTAZAH has looked a different animal this year and he absolutely jogged up in the Group 3 Burj Nahaar Stakes on Super Saturday earlier this month. An impressive winner of the Firebreak Stakes the time before that, connections have made the right decision to stick at this distance, over which his second-placed effort in this race last year was more than creditable. Heavy Metal got the better of Doug Watson's charge that day but hasn't looked the same horse this year, so it could be that the selection's stable companion, Kimbear, puts up most resistance. Coal Front brings good US form to the table but has to overcome a tough draw out wide in stall 12.
MUNTAZAH has improved beyond recognition since switched to dirt and is taken to land the spoils. The run for the places looks open. True Timber takes the eye from a low draw for interesting connections, whilst Good Curry will be staying on at the death.

Charlie Appleby boasts a strong hand with CROSS COUNTER and the improving Ispolini expected to fight out the finish. William Buick has chosen the brilliant Melbourne Cup winner who could still be improving and looked to thrive on his first try over this trip at Flemington in November. Ispolini stepped up on his handicap success to win the Nad Al Sheba Trophy, but didn't beat much on that occasion and will have to improve again if he's to put it up to the selection. Of the others, Call The Wind could be the one to spoil the Godolphin party as he warmed up for this with a spin on the all-weather at Chantilly and was an impressive winner of the Group 1 Prix Du Cadran over 2m4f at Longchamp the time before.
This could end up being a tactical affair and preference is for Godolphin's Melbourne Cup hero CROSS COUNTER, who has a proven turn of foot. In the run for the minor money, French-challenger Call The Wind cannot be ignored and Prince of Arran will appreciate the step back up in trip. Ispolini also can't be discounted.

BLUE POINT bled at the start when well fancied for this race 12 months ago and, scratched at the gates, connections will be hoping he gains compensation this time around. Charlie Appleby won it with Jungle Cat anyway, so it wasn't all bad for the Godolphin handler, but his King's Stand winner has unfinished business in the Al Quoz Sprint and will be a popular winner on the back of two very impressive prep runs in the Meydan Sprint (5f) and Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint over C&D on Super Saturday. The son of Shamardal has more on his plate with the likes of Sands Of Mali, winner of the Qipco British Champions Sprint at Ascot last October, and Stormy Liberal going to post, but he is taken to show his class.
BLUE POINT has toyed with his rivals on his way to 2 wins here this year and will take all the beating. Sands of Mali signed off 2018 with victory in the Champions Sprint at Ascot and seems sure to go well from the front, while Brave Smash looks the pick of the Australian runners.

DIVINE IMAGE is a very talented filly who has set this year's Carnival alight courtesy of taking performances in the UAE 1000 Guineas, UAE Oaks and Al Bastakiya Stakes. Everything went wrong for her in the Guineas but she produced an unbelievable run to come from last to second, something that is incredibly tough to achieve on the dirt surface and she was only having her second career start. The Chelmsford scorer confirmed the promise of that in the UAE Oaks, where again everything seemed to go wrong in the preliminaries and during the race, only for her to get up late in a driving finish. The daughter of Scat Daddy took a huge step forward mentally on Super Saturday as, despite still getting a bit warm beforehand, she broke well and travelled much better - running out an impressive seven-and-a-quarter-length winner over C&D. Entitled to have improved again, she lines up in receipt of weight from Walking Thunder and Jahbath and both heart and head say she'll do the business.
WALKING THUNDER can be forgiven his last run and could be hard to peg back under Frankie Dettori if breaking quickly from stall 1. Divine Image has won her last 2 starts over C&D, including the UAE Oaks, and should be on the premises. The late defection of Roy H has opened the door for X Y JET to get his head in front in a race that he has been narrowly beaten in twice before (2016 and 2018). Last year Jorge Navarro's gelding was only beaten a head by Mind Your Biscuits but he was taken on for the lead on that occasion. From stall three, which is effectively two with Roy H not running, he looks sure to get the rail and lead, and if he can save a bit more energy early on then he will be extremely hard to catch. Promises Fulfilled appears to be the pace pressure for the selection but he is likely to take a lead today and that may not suit this four-year-old. Imperial Hint's chances have been massively boosted with Roy H pulling out, given that he has been beaten by the rival on a couple of occasions already, and his recent defeat in a minor event at Tampa Bay should be forgiven. That was a prep run for this contest and the son of Imperialism is better judged on his two US Grade 1 victories in 2018. Drafted is the pick of the home team and he will be suited by a fast pace, but he has been picking up moderate local sprinters in the final furlong and these US raiders won't finish as weakly as they do.
X Y JET has suffered a brace of agonising defeats in this race, but with Roy H now out of the race, this could be a good chance for him to gain a deserved success. Imperial Hint has now inherited the inside position and is a big threat, with Promises Fulfilled completing the shortlist for a powerful US contingent.

Almond Eye clearly sets the standard having won the Japanese Fillies Triple Crown and Japan Cup in 2018 and in the process she has earned comparisons to some of the all-time greats from the Far East. That said, she faces a new challenge in Dubai given that this is the first time that she has raced outside of her homeland. With that in mind, preference is for DREAM CASTLE, who has taken a big step forward since being gelded last year. The son of Frankel was always talented but the gelding operation has helped him relax in his races and he arrives here on the back of a hat-trick of victories over C&D this season. Last time out he impressively accounted for Wootton when winning the Jebel Hatta on Super Saturday and he should be primed for the big occasion. I Can Fly would have a chance based on her QEII run but that came on soft ground and the rest of her form suggests that may have been a fluke. Those looking for each-way alternatives should consider Century Dream, who is race-fit from a couple of previous runs at this venue, and Vivlos.
ALMOND EYE has carried all before her in her native Japan and, while she's unproven in this country and back from a break, a replication of last year's performances would be too good for this field. Dream Castle is unbeaten in 3 over this C&D and ranks as the obvious danger ahead of Southern Legend.

Rey de Oro was a little disappointing when finishing fourth in this race 12 months ago, albeit that he chased home some top-class European performers. The Japanese raider went on to win the autumn edition of the Tenno Sho in October and only just failed to reel in the winner when a neck second in the Arima Kinen last time out. He is the pick of those from Japan but still the preference is for OLD PERSIAN. Charlie Appleby's colt put in a career best when giving weight and a beating to his subsequent Melbourne Cup-winning stablemate Cross Counter in the Great Voltigeur at York last summer. He also beat Kew Gardens on that occasion but that rival reversed that form when Old Persian clearly failed to stay in the St Leger. The son of Dubawi proved that this was his trip when overcoming a lot of traffic problems to win the Dubai City Of Gold over C&D on Super Saturday. Connections suggested that he would improve for that run and he has plenty in his favour. Magic Wand is a likeable filly who should run well but is likely to find one or two too good, while Cheval Grand is the pick of the remainder.
OLD PERSIAN made good strides forward in 2018, his best performance coming when landing the Great Voltigeur at York in August. He did well to make a winning return over C&D 3 weeks ago, showing an impressive turn of foot and he gets the nod to make the breakthrough at Group 1 level. High-class Japanese raider Rey De Oro is feared most, ahead of 4-y-o filly Magic Wand.
