THE CASTILIAN had been really consistent over hurdles until disappointing on his last two starts, but this drop into selling company for the first time could see him deservedly break his duck. This is Jamaaron's level, where he invariably gets placed, and he should do so again, while Pilca and John Jorrocks have also shown ability and can fight it out for the minor honours.
TAMARINBLEU ran a cracker on his chasing debut when just touched off by Accordion Etoile in a Grade 2 event at Cheltenham. He disappointed last time, but the ground was against him there, and he should have little trouble in getting back on track here today. Jacks Craic has been placed a couple of times over fences, including a decent run in handicap company last week, and he looks the only possible danger.
Day Of Claies was having only his third start over hurdles when fourth at Wetherby on Boxing Day, and although his jumping was a little sketchy, there should be plenty more improvement to come. The progressive Present Glory should also be in the shake-up on his handicap debut, but preference is for KILTY STORM, who really appreciated the step-up in trip when scoring at Newbury last week, and he can go in again here.
ALCOPOP doesn't look a particularly easy ride, but has plenty of ability and can score again at the course where he achieved his last victory in March. Alcatras and Bob The Builder are in decent enough form to suggest that they should be in the shake-up, while the veteran and course specialist Deliceo has dropped to a respectable mark and should not be discounted.
Rosetown and Mini Dare were both disappointing beaten favourites last time, but have the ability to figure at this level. The former is really well-in over fences compared to hurdles, while the latter won in great style at Huntingdon in November and would go very close if returning to that form. KIMONO ROYAL was nibbled at in the market on his chasing debut at Taunton last month, but departed at the first, and compensation may well await for Alan King's well-thought-of eight-year-old.
MAKEABREAK improved markedly for the step-up in trip when runner-up at Taunton recently, and this ex-bumper winner should be able to get off the mark over hurdles in this company. Ex-French import Noun De La Thinte also improved last time when chasing home subsequent easy winner Sunley Shines, and should make the frame again, while Samandara, who ran better when fitted with a first-time visor round here last month, is another to consider.
The Hollow Bottom won over C&D on his debut before finishing third, just half a length behind MAGICAL HARRY, again over C&D last time. There should be very little between the pair again today, but the latter may just have more improvement to come and just gets the nod. Newcomers Sir Jimmy Shand and Hollandia hail from stables with pretty good records in this type of event and should be noted for any market confidence.
