He marginally holds Fairyhouse Grade 3 winner Our Conor on a line through Stocktons Wing, who filled the runner-up spot in both races. Diakali adds considerable strength to the Mullins team having beaten the reopposing Flaxen Flare by 28 lengths in a Punchestown Grade 3 last month. Ruacana is a fascinating British raider and must be respected following his Grade 1 win at Chepstow.

CHAMPAGNE FEVER got to within a length and a half of Jezki in the Royal Bond but was subsequently very disappointing when finishing third, a place behind the reopposing Minsk, in the Slaney Novice Hurdle at Naas last time out. He is a top prospect on all other form and is afforded another chance to prove himself today. The main danger this time could be Waaheb, who was beaten six lengths by Jezki here over Christmas but had Bright New Dawn behind that day and remains open to stacks of improvement as a hurdler.

BOSTON BOB, who achieved so much as a novice hurdler last winter, made the perfect start to his eagerly-awaited career over fences when landing a minor event at Navan in December and is expected to take this step up in class firmly in his stride. Willie Mullins' charge has more on his plate now but he has always looked an exciting chaser in the making and his stable could hardly be in better form at present. Texas Jack has more experience over fences than the selection and certainly jumped well enough when beating the reopposing Lord Windermere in a Grade 2 event over C&D last month. That pair can fill the places here.

There was very little between FLEMENSTAR and Sir Des Champs when the pair finished a respective third and fourth in a thrilling finish to the Grade 1 Lexus Chase here in December but Peter Casey's stable star can confirm his superiority this afternoon. The eight-year-old travelled supremely well last time until tiring close home on his first try at 3m, but connections are entitled to play their hand later in the piece this time around and he remains a exceptional prospect. Sir Des Champs was no match for the selection over 2m4f two starts and although he is clearly better over staying distances, jumping errors cost him last time. Last year's winner Quel Esprit has only raced twice since (well beaten on both occasions) and faces a much tougher task 12 months on.

TENNIS CAP was a disappointing favourite on his handicap debut here in December but he set the record straight with an authoritative display at Naas last month (Rory Anna third). The assessor has stepped in with a 12lb rise but the six-year-old still strikes as a potentially very well-handicapped animal and the soft ground will certainly hold no fears. Inis Meain was beaten before falling two out in the Boylesports but he could be much sharper on this occasion having his second run after a break. Rocky Wednesday filled the runner-up spot that day and must accorded respect, although a 6lb hike for being beaten is never easy to overcome.

Salsify chased home TAMMYS HILL twice in December and, with the ground testing again, Liam Lennon's representative can complete a hat-trick over the Cheltenham Festival winner. Three and a half lengths separated them on both occasions but the eight-year-old was a convincing winner each time and the former may need better conditions before he reverses the form. Mossey Joe is a smart jumper on his day and is sure to have plenty of supporters as he tackles hunter chase company for the first time. He rates the biggest threat.

An interesting finale, in which Quickpick Vic should have his say again following two silver medal finishes and point-to-point scorer Azorian is also expected to go well on his NH bow with Nina Carberry on board. However, fellow point winner OLD KILCASH has the benefit of previous experience in this sphere, a promising third over this C&D, and that edges him the vote today. The second has since won to give that form a solid look and there should be more in the locker. Market support for any of the newcomers would have to be of interest.
