Verdict

Richard Fourie rode PARENTAL GUIDANCE and BLACK CHEETAH to debut victories but sticks with the latter, so it could pay to follow the progress of that Querari colt. ORBIT defied a market drift on debut when edging out CLAIR DE LUNE and could confirm his superiority on identical weight terms. CALL OF THE KAROO and MALMESBURY MISSILE aren't taken lightly and they should improve to make their presence felt on the revised terms. Newcomers WINTER SNAP is worth a market check on debut.

Verdict

TENANGO finished 2nd over track and trip after a winning reappearance and needn't improve much in his peak outing to recapture the winning thread. SPEED RACER, HANDSOME PRINCE, THE ABDICATOR and ICY BLAST are better than their disappointing last starts suggest - they retain sufficient means to acquit themselves competitively. Unexposed CORK BAY, last-start winner KELP FOREST (with blinkers retained) and well-weighted fillies CHAMPAGNE KISSES and DARK WINTER should make their presence felt too.

However, is taken on promising 3yo filly GIMMIE'S COUNTESS who will appreciate reverting to this distance, over which she finished a close-up and unlucky 4th in a Grade 1 as a 2yo. SAARTJIE was a beaten short-priced favourite in a recent slowly run course-and-distance Grade 3 won by RAINBOW LORKIEET (1kg worse off) but she shouldn't be hastily condemned, especially with stable companion LAVENDER BAY likely to ensure an honest pace. DOUBLE GRAND SLAM may be stretched by a true-run 1800m but she gave 6kg and a beating to RAINBOW LORIKEET over 1600m in late November and on the evidence of that performance, she is the one to beat. WORLD OF ALICE is open to improvement over this trip so she must be respected. SILVER SANCTUARY, RASCOVA and LITTLE SUZIE complete the shortlist.

ORIENTAL CHARM made a winning reappearance in a course-and-distance Grade 2 and would've come on with that comeback outing under his belt. He remains open to improvement and could be hard to peg back if allowed an uncontested lead. Consistent LOVE IS A ROSE is closely matched with both 4yo geldings and she is weighted to have a say in the outcome on these revised terms.
