Stephen Hero chased home the exciting Rutherglen on hurdling debut at Wetherby and rates a useful prospect, especially with his Flat profile suggesting the ground will suit. VICENZO MIO, however, sets the standard on his French form (two victories in deep ground) and shaped well at Cheltenham before tying up after the last. The three-year-old will strip fitter here and can open his account for Paul Nicholls. Memberof is potentially useful, but the three-year-old made a laboured debut at Aintree and rates a risky proposition with Alan King's yard continuing under a cloud.

Grandouet jumped with more fluency that on his chasing debut earlier in the month, but the former high-class hurdler still doesn't convince over fences and looks more at home on a sounder surface. Valdez made a mockery of his handicap mark at Newbury and rates an exciting proposition, but with the testing conditions unlikely to suit, DODGING BULLETS shades the verdict. Paul Nicholls's charge was third in the Christmas Hurdle on desperate ground last term and has made an exemplary start to life over the larger obstacles. He can enhance his Arkle credentials this afternoon.

The Old Vic mare has returned this season looking better than ever - backed up her Ascot success with a solid placed effort at Sandown - and another big performance looks assured. Conditions should be ideal for Mickie, who produced a career best performance when scoring at Newbury last time, while Utopie Des Bordes and Cannon Fodder add further spice to the contest.

SPRINTER SACRE, the best two miler in living memory, is impossible to oppose on his eagerly awaited seasonal bow. Nicky Henderson's stable star missed the Tingle Creek at Sandown with an unsatisfactory scope but is reported to be back in full health now. He can begin another all-conquering campaign at the expense of Sire De Grugy, who takes his chance after Kempton significantly bolstered the prize fund for this race, and Fago, who got his career back on track with a facile success at Haydock last time.

Top Tip: Sprinter Sacre (2)
Watch out for: Sire De Grugy (1)

This ought to be straightforward for the imperious Sprinter Sacre, and he can extend his unbeaten run over fences to eleven. Sire de Grugy is easily best of the rest, and with conditions ideal for him, he looks a banker for the forecast spot. Fago has youth on his side, but is playing only for minor money if the big guns fire as expected.
