The lightly-raced SHAKA THE KING was in the process of running a much better race when stepped up to this trip at Ayr last time only to spoil his chance by making a hash of the last. Though he has been raised 5lb in defeat, he only carries 3lb more today and that mark looks there to be exploited. Cudgel, a three-time winner over hurdles at this track, is still winless from 12 chase starts but commands respect after recent wind surgery, as does the consistent Gipsy Lee Rose, even though her own winless run over fences has now stretched to 13 outings.

Bobbie The Dazzler ran on well to score over further last time out at Sedgefield, but a drop in trip and 7lb penalty could make her vulnerable. WEST LAWN is a tentative suggestion taking a big step up in trip for her handicap debut. She has plenty of stamina in her pedigree and could be the surprise package off a mark of 83. It will be interesting to see where she sits in the betting market, with Ryedale Racer the obvious alternative for a stable who can do little wrong at present.
