Kim Muir fourth CRIEVEHILL impressed when winning on his reappearance at Wetherby last month for Nigel Twiston-Davies and could defy a 7lb rise. The seven-year-old won't mind this step up in distance and, assuming the rain stays away, is fancied to prove too hot to handle for veteran Burtons Well, who showed a nice attitude to strike at Aintree last time out. Midnight Shadow was travelling with intent before falling at Carlisle 12 days ago and would be a threat here if that hasn't dented his confidence, while Keeper Hill showed some nice form over hurdles last season and was a Grade 2 winner in this sphere two years ago as a novice chaser. Preference, though, is for Fergal O'Brien's JARVEYS PLATE, whose success over Reserve Tank at Chepstow was boosted when the latter landed a Grade 2 at Wincanton earlier this month. The selection jumped well that day and this extra yardage is expected to bring about further improvement.

KATESON struggled on decent ground in top novice hurdles towards the back end of last season but he could be very well handicapped off a mark of 141. Last December Tom Lacey's gelding only found Champ and Getaway Trump too good in the Grade 1 Challow Novices' Hurdle and his chances would only increase if any rain arrived. Project Bluebook was running well when his rider took the wrong course at Wetherby last month and has to be respected, although he would want the rain to stay away. Others to note are Irish Roe, Honest Vic and Whoshotthesheriff.

Bristol De Mai warrants plenty of respect as he bids to maintain his unbeaten record at the Merseyside track (four from four) and make it a hat-trick of victories in this race. Nigel Twiston-Davies' charge has a cracking first-time-out record and looks sure to give a good account, but he might just find the new kid on the block, LOSTINTRANSLATION, too hot to handle. His novice chase form from last season is top-class, rounding off with an impressive six-length victory in Grade 1 company at Aintree, and he was simply breathtaking when making a winning reappearance in the Colin Parker Memorial Chase at Carlisle 20 days ago. With that run under his belt, and the frightening potential of further progress, he is fancied to land the spoils. Frodon can build on his comeback effort at Aintree, where he was inconvenienced by a number of the fences being taken out, while Charlie Hall winner Ballyoptic will likely need others to falter to score.

KNOW THE SCORE made a winning start to chasing career in what was a competitive novice handicap at Worcester last month. A 5lb rise for that victory, which came on his first outing since wind surgery, could prove lenient, with the six-year-old Flemensfirth gelding looking set to fulfil his early potential as a staying chaser. Digger Daudaie was sent off favourite for that aforementioned contest and would appreciate any rain that falls, while Ian Williams won this last term and his Zerachiel, in a first-time visor, is worth keeping an eye on. Late Romantic, second to De Rasher Counter in a typically competitive Uttoxeter novice contest on Midlands National Day, bolted up on his reappearance at Wetherby and has to be respected despite an 8lb increase from the assessor.
