Verdict

POTENTE fought it out with BIG SLICK last time and could do so again. POTENTE had things go wrong and was unlucky. He should relish the longer trip and a 3kg turnaround with BIG SLICK makes him the one to beat. CAPTAIN CATMAN wasn't far off the pair when making his bow and with improvement could be dangerous even if having to overcome a wide draw. Well-bred first-timers contest the race but JOHNDUNBAR is carded to race prior and that run needs to be watched.

Verdict

BELLE'S FIRST WAVE finished ahead of GREY LINNGARI and THE GREEN GALLANT in a similar race and there is little reason to suggest the order will change. The former can dictate and should have every chance of opening his account. GREY LINNGARI needed that run and improved on previous poly efforts so could prove a threat. It will be his 34th stab at escaping the maidens and there could be quite a celebration if he does. THE GREEN GALLANT should also have won by now and he may not get an easier opportunity. READY FREDDY and MUSIC BOX SPECIAL have big claims as well.

Verdict

Almost the field need to be considered in exotic bets. MR MASTER STARTER is highly regarded and had a go in the Grade 1 Cape Guineas. He will have matured during a three-month break and could enjoy the poly. Another with Cape form, ROYAL WATCH, has shown fair form but may just need it after rest and gelding. GENTLEMAN'S WAY is coming to hand again and is weighted to turn around a beating by NAVAL SECRET. The latter has not drawn as well but is ultra-consistent and can get to KUUMA at the revised terms. CAPTAIN SEAGER loves the trip but will be tested. Go wide.

Verdict

THERE SHE GOES turned in a fair run when tried on the Polytrack last time. She can build on that but has drawn a bit wide so has her work cut out. CRAZY BLUES has matured into a useful filly who can run well on turf and poly. She has drawn well and could keep going up front. Highveld filly DESERT PRIDE improved in the new year and has dropped further in the ratings. She cannot be taken lightly from draw No 2 on her Polytrack debut. Rested LUNDY ISLAND won three in a row but then lost form. A 4kg apprentice claim could boost her chances and add to that gate No 1 must give her a say.

Verdict

OWLETTE loved being back on the poly and won well, suggesting more to come. She has only won over 1400m but should have no problem considering her pedigree. MODE has shown potential on the surface but is carded to run at the Vaal prior. Her run needs to be checked before making a final decision. She has drawn well. RAIN WEAR confirmed improvement made with a convincing win. She can follow up if the race is again run to suit. LAUREL LANE was unlucky not to beat males last time. Her saddle slipped but she needs to confirm she can produce the same on the poly.

Verdict

Another lower division fillies and mares handicap. WINTER'S DESTINY shot up the inside last time and she then lacked a winning burst. She has finished runner-up in her last two races and would be deserving, but goes further. ALABAMA SKY did a lot to win her maiden last time but given a chance from off the pace could follow up on handicap debut. LUNA ECLIPSE and DEMIGOD both finished ahead of Red Rosa who subsequently beat WINTER'S DESTINY, SWISS BANK and FLOWER SEASON. They need to be taken seriously. SWISS BANK is knocking at the door and should prefer the trip these days.

Verdict

STANLEY is coming to hand. He did well off wide draws and looks well placed in this line-up. If ignoring his second last run with blinkers TECHNO SAVVY is maintaining solid form and from draw No 1 looks the biggest danger. However, he is dropping in distance. ADMIRAL BIRNHAM looks better than his record of one win from nine starts but has been a bit disappointing. He may have needed time to mature. CAFE PACIFICA has dropped quite a bit in the ratings and from a decent draw could be the surprise package. WHAT A BLAST has a strong finish if in the mood. More in it.
